Yip I was in a rush when I wrote that as my internet time was about to cut off.

I think yes the FZRrims are good with front end etc,

But glens one's would well suit your bike more, The weight of an RS125 is bloody light, It has the thing that the tires you would eventually end up putting on your rims are there,

But the main thing is the weight

Here's some cheaper wheels (FZR/TZR) Slingshot: Tardeme link and I have other parts (forks, clamps) you could borrow until you get some. Not as good condition but...

I guess the Skunkworks Norf Welly Massif Bucket Factory should open on Sunday... I just have to move a shed.

Sorry to interrupt you nice, cogent, cohesive chaps, but I've got a question.

A nice man called Twinkle dropped a CB250RS (engine in boxes and fecked) to me last night. The chassis looks greeeeet. It's quite a light chassis; suited to buckets? I really want to do bucketing at some stage, and this seems like a good opportunity to save for.

Any advice on appropriate engines? Obviously the normal 250RS route of dropping an XR500 mill into it won't quite suit bucketing, how about CG125? A stroker? Thanks, guys.

You could do worse, but the RS chassis would really be less than ideal.
They are light good handling machines in their own right but I think in the long run you might be better to invest in something else.
The old AC Cobra mantra of small light chassis with a bigger motor applies as well to buckets as the XR500 in the CB250RS if you get my drift.

So it's too heavy/big for buckets? TBH I'm not terribly interested in going fast or winning, I'm a student with less than no money. The XL/R500 Post-classics/trackday route is expensive and sort of being thrown in the deep-end; I like the loose kind of ideals of buckets.

Perhaps if somebody wanted to swap, or something, but I'm more than happy kicking around the tail end of the field.

What's a good common thumper engine you guys use?

As I said you could do worse, at least you've got lots of scope for mounting the engine in the (relatively cavernous) space between the front down tube and the swing arm pivot.

Suzuki GN,GS,DR125 and Honda CB,XL125 would be the most common 4t singles used. The increased capacity rule change from a couple of years ago means there a quite a few FXR150's being used now, especially down south.

Get in contact with the AMCC guys that race at Mt Wellington, you'll probably find that someone would be selling a bucket or have a spare one to have a crack on. It's one of those situations that once you're moving in the right circles things become easier to find. And generallly at bucket level everyone is more than willing to help you out with advice.

Good luck and good on ya for wanting to get into it!

This is what the Skunkworks Norf Welly Massif Bucket Factory is missing

    A home-made inertia dyno

I'm thinking that between us we could probably manage to throw one of these together. Someone on KB should be able to write the software and maybe even design the data capture set-up (the one they used is $600USD).
