TF motor is in pieces at the momment I am doing a whole engine overhaul just stripped it to nothing and am replacing all my bearings in it and also the seals balance the crank add a flatslide race carb and get my barrel ported I have bead blasted the squish bank on the head but it might need a hone or something because it has pit marks in it and is not good its gonna be a awsome motor

WTF.... why did you bead blast the head for. sorry am I missing something???Originally Posted by Ivan
I always though that you machined the head to get the correct / desired squish, then shaped/laped the facing to suit the barrel ??
I spose that is where I"ve been going wrong.![]()
hay would a sand blaster work as well????
sorry mate, just struggling to understand what you are up to.
Just give up on trying to explain ANYTHING to Ivan........
BTW,
Good luck on getting your barrel back in one piece...... or NOT bead blasted
what is the aprilla?...Originally Posted by Ivan

what a ride so far!!!!
Its got ugly UGLY welds in it, but it is a very cool bucket frame with good tires on it.
Apart from the near impossibility of getting bearings for the gearbox, you may only need to change the crank bearings. If you are going to rev it a bit harder than stock, and who doesn't, you will do well to check the big end bearing which will mean dismantling the crank. Fresh seals are always a good idea to start with. Don't bother being too technical when balancing the crank. Just press the aluminium into the holes as described earlier in the thread, it works really well. The closest thing I've found to a flatslide carb for a 2-stroke are some real nice Keihin carbs but they were still round slide with flat bits sticking out each side on the slide. I can't imagine why you would have blasted the squish band, generally a clean machined surface is desired, I even like to Wet n Dry the squish while it's in the lathe just to get it nice and smooth. Little pock marks from something like a little or big end failure don't make much differance, just scrape/file off the high spots. I've done that a few times over the years.Originally Posted by Ivan

I think it is important to polish the head & recommend you forgo television for the next week or so until it is mirror-like. Some tuners may disrepute this practise but I have positive proof that there are fundamental benefits for doing this.
My GasGas trials bike has a bright polished head & it looks real smart + it is real easy to clean, dirt washes right off & everyone can respect that right off.

good to see you're sticking to chain drive and not attempting to convert it to shaft drive or something. although with all the power its making it might snap all the chains you put on itOriginally Posted by Ivan

could be keen on the bucket idea. I've got the right gearing to do it as well., I'll think about it.
