We've got a 98 Primera as the family wagon. Downsides are that it's got a CVT transmission which would be weak for towing (we borrow my parents 2001 Primera sedan manual for that
) and the SR20 motor in it runs on 95 or above, which adds a few cents per litre to the running costs. But it's a typical modern car, ABS, twin airbags, climate control, electric everything, nothing will break before 2 million kays... Including auction fees we paid $8200 a year ago.
Our criteria was ABS, twin airbags and a wagon. The Accords mostly didn't have twin bags, or the ones that did were the newer shape that was out of our price range.
Nissan motors have a reputation for lasting for ever. Honda's are good cars too, and if you were talking 2006 models, I'd take an Accord Euro over a Primera anyday.
Guess it depends if your version of a "run around" matches ours
