Motorcycle club sues town over illegal banning of ridethrough

A Connecticut motorcycle club is suing the Vermont town of Jamaica and the county sheriff's department for shutting down an August 2004 ride through the town. The claim alleges that deputies threatened to “seize the riders' motorcycles and sell them at auction” if they undertook the ride.

An ordinance was passed to stop the ride – however, it was rushed through just before the event and, as such, was invalid as under Vermont law such ordinances cannot take effect for 60 days after passage.

The Vermont Attorney General's office found the sheriff's department "acted improperly" and criticized town officials for pressuring for the enforcement of the ordinance before it became law.

Business proberly didn't want their town to end up like Sturgis or Daytona Beach, They would have to restock after everything had been sold.
