    Arrow URGENT: Otaki area - Health Warning 23/01/06

    I have just received this email.
    So all those in the following area, please read this.

    NZ Police CommCens Alert 09:00 23-01-2006 Wellington

    Location of incident: Otaki

    Incident Type: Urgent Health Warning

    The New Zealand Fire Service have asked to pass on the following information, given under the authority of the Health Protection Officer, Regional Health.

    Due to smoke generation from a large industrial fire in Otaki, all those living South of Otaki should consider the following:

    People with known respiratory conditions, such as asthma or heart problems should remain inside with doors and windows closed.

    Vehicles travelling through the area should reduce air intake from outside by closing external vents or set the air to circulate within the vehicle.

    If anyone experiences health difficulties as a result of this incident, they should seek medical advice.

    This information applies until a cancellation is received.

    As of 1300 hrs 23/01/2006, the previous health warning, re toxic smoke from a fire in Otaki, is cancelled.

    I found it interesting on 3 news tonight regarding this fire. A senior cop has stated that the fire is being treated as arson... HOWEVER: there is NO evidence to suggest anything along this line.
    WHY are the police taking this line of thought??? "Because it should not have happened".
