least it wasn't Placemakers they charge like wounded bulls!
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

    Construction crew

    AHHHH….. The young and enthusiastic!

Here's a truly heartwarming story about the bond formed between a little 5-year-old girl and some construction workers that will make you believe that we all can make a difference when we give a child the gift of our time.

A young family moved into a house, next to a vacant lot. One day, a construction crew turned up to start building a house on the empty lot.
The young family's 5-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all the Activity going on next door and spent much of each day observing the workers.

Eventually the construction crew, all of them "gems-in-the-rough, "more or less, adopted her as a kind of project mascot. They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had coffee and lunch breaks, and gave her little jobs to do here and there to make her feel important. At the end of the first week, they even presented her with a pay envelope containing ten dollars. The little girl took this home to her mother who suggested that she take her ten dollars "pay" she'd received to the bank the next day to start a savings account.

When the girl and her mom got to the bank, the teller was equally impressed and asked the little girl how she had come by her very own pay check at such a young age. The little girl proudly replied, "I worked last week with a real construction crew building the new house next door to us." "Oh my goodness gracious," said the teller, "and will you be working on the house again this week, too?" The little girl replied, "I will, if those assholes at Home Depot ever deliver the fuckin' sheet rock..."

    A 5-year-old's first paycheck...

    Her First Paycheck..............

admiration and suggested that they take the two dollar "pay"

Stories like this just bring a tear to your eye. Don't they?
"I came into this game for the action, the excitement... go anywhere, travel light,... get in, get out,... wherever there's trouble, a man alone... Now they got the whole country sectioned off; you can't make a move without a form."

Paved roads are just another example of wasted tax payer dollars.

That's a bastardised version of a story told in one of Bill Bryson's books. One of the american ones, I can't remember which. It was the young daughter of one of his friends. The original is much funnier than that . . . must find it for you.

Bill Bryson writes some good stuff, if you find the title of the book or the original version, i'm interested in either.

I wonder if its a Bill Bryson original or if he just aquired it somewhere - this is a variation of that story that I recall hearing in the smoko room when I was doing my apprenticeship, so it must have been over 35 years ago. Anyway:
A young boy took interest in a construction crew working next door and spent most of the day with the builders. When he came home his mother was shocked to hear him come out with some of the builders language and decided to punish him.
"Young man" she said "you go to the closet and get me a switch"*
"the hell I will" he yelled back "I ain't no fucking electrician!"

(*switch being in this case American for a whip or cane)

And how come I can remember shit like this from over 30 years ago and can't recall what I did at work last week?
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.
