    Racing Expenses

Now before anyone wonders ! this thread is NOT related/ concerned with the awesome effort to get a kb rider on the track OR any one/ thing.. I was just thinking thats all

As you know I am probably the worlds Cheapest baskets ( or just a basket) anyway I have never been a fan of named brands such as Ohdears, Wishco..etc
    I have always thought that its 95 % the rider and 10 % the bike ( I always give 105 % )
So when I read of the cost of these bigger teams ..I am thinking ,,,How????

I mean, I can understand at the MotoGp level and WSB level where they are developing new bits and pieces, but here in NZ we are running pretty stock bike ( I assume as I saw a top runner at last years waganui still running the stock wiring with the tip over cut out still in place!!!)

Now I know when I race my MX bike , the entry fees and the travelling cost mount up ( quickly ) but even so ....

The way I have done my bike it to , think ,,why are all these people going past me ( rapidly I might add ) then find out why and make the STOCK component work to the best of it ability ...and in MOST cases that approach has been great , suspension , engine.

For example I had a go on an 06 CR and its much smaller than my 91 and the clutch is Sooo easy ..So I will buy a Crapped out 01 model and fit my engines into the ( please tell me they fit !!) ...Using My original suspension which I modified to get the bugs out and see if either A the 06 uses a the same clutch hub ,,,ie more plates and if it will fit into the 91 cases OR spring for the Magura hydraulic clutch....

eg I was using 1986 cases with 91/ 2 internals ,,cos they were cheap and fitted ....( and I am sticking with 91 engine because its fit for purpose)

Either way in 2 years of racing now my expenses have come Nowhere near some of the sums mentioned

Just throwing this one open for a bit of discussion, as I am curious about all thoose wee things that mount up ,,,like drinks , lunches ,,,the odd crash or 2

    Be good to hear

When they get ''big'',they start paying shitloads of money to people who do nothing...like consultants. These are people who were mediocer at their job, then somehow turned themselves into a ''consultant''...now they get paid a shitload of money doing absolutly nothing, but telling others what they are doing wrong and how they should fix it.

I reckon you need a consultant, you really need help, and I'm the guy to help you.Find a ''Brand'' that makes nothing, but puts it's label on others products to sponsor you,and with 20 other people doing nothing but getting paid heaps for it...I will turn your career around!

The fuel cost in just getting Too the track is the biggest cost for me.

I buy aftermarket pistons/rings. Fit them myself.
Finally have the motor running reliably now. (fingers crossed)
    Budget accomadation, or less!

If I'm really out of funds, I ride slow to save on race fuel.

I've only been to one race meeting so far, but the biggest cost was fuel to get there.

the entry fee was the next highest cost.

This is all excluding the actual buying of the racebike and gear too.

good to see you keep your race costs down by riding the bike from Nelson to Chch (those cages use sooooo much gas).

Its harder to lose weight than gain horsepower.
