After market Oil Filters for my Toymotor Van

Sorry a car thread, -well not exactly, my van is a patented dirt & racebike mover so it still sort of counts & I never intend buying another car after that awful Vaxhaul I had when I was 19.

So my point is Having read those oil filter tests people keep posting on the internerd (where have you been? They cut up old filters & diss them) they have done this for bikes but also for cars (or cages if you want to pretend you are some ‘In the Wind reading Baddie Bikey’). Ahh, google it.


Sooooo, I’ve been buying Rip-co oil & filter kits for a while, the 15-40 oil is made by BP so it’s got to be fine for a Van (petrol) engine. The filters are Fram.
These tests dis Fram (cardboard endcaps & some other reasons).

Supercheap sell Fram too & possibly Valvoline (which aren’t covered in this test & cheaper, so hmmm).

Not knowing much about car spares, where would I buy decent aftermarket filters without paying the world, so that I’ll actually change them. The local Toy-motor operation seem think I’m invisible when I turn up & I end up walking out after 5min.
Trade customers must buy more if they ignore dicks in suits, company policy maybe.

Lower Hutt based, hmm BNT maybe? (can see them out the window) Dunno if they even do filters, hmm, [google], oh look. They do Fram. Unsurprising they are Repco.

Nothing wrong with the after market filters. 99% of all workshops use after market parts.
Its a Toyota, you could go 50,000 Ks between services and it wouldn’t die!

Ahem,I'm one of those anal retentives who cut open filters....Fram really are crap,and I've had them fall apart and cars lose oil pressure.But really,they are fit for purpose,and you wouldn't want to go more than 10,000km on one.Have you a diesel or petrol?,some Toyota diesels take a dual element filter.I have been doing a lot of cutting up of filters for my Pajero - the oil light takes 4 secs to go out in the morning,and it's just filter drain.I've found PC filters have stopped that completely - of all the filters I have cut open they are by far the most superior,genuine made in Japan.I get them from Auto Trans Parts,Auck.BNT do Fram...Repco Ryco,their own is Ryco too....Autostop do Full,which is made in Thailand,and very good I think.There is a lot of crap out there,and most ''branded'' filters are Wix or Purolator - you can tell a Purolator by the string around it,and I've found them in genuine Nissan filters out of a 300ZX - outsourced to cheapest tender....

I stand corrected, I have only come across one faulty filter, BUT I don’t cut them open...
We use the Ryco/Repco/Appco... ones, haven’t had a problem with them yet.

I thought they were Ryco, but haven't seriously looked at them. But I could be wrong, nothing new there.

Was sure my Van was Fram, maybe they get a mixture depending on who they can source them from. Motu: is petrol (had in thread start).

The Warehouse filters (can't remember the name) are very good quality and cheap.

I vivesect filters,too.
The Warehouse filters are Group 7 brand,made by Purolator.
Good quality and cost $10,sometimes $7

The one for my car is a Group 7 V4610 and the cross reference for the Purolator branded equivalent is L14610,
Then on the bottom of the box it says Purolator Products Co Made in USA.

Purolater was the original oil filter and the name was derived from the slogan:
"Purer oil,Later"

Yeah, I just popped into the whatsi-house & saw. Also noticed a lack of cattledog (again) so presumably they intend to sell to people who know what to use or buy one that looks the same & hope.

Only the Purolator pure 1 is recomended, these don't appear to be these?

Ahh sod this, may Repco is just easier & hope they don't fail.
