Thumbs up Corro loop ride - starts in Auckland - 25-2-06

    Hi All,

Am planning to pick up my rental on the morning of 25-2-06 at about 8:00 AM at: 54 Barrys Point Road, Takapuna, Auckland. Soon after, I'm planning to ride down the coast and then do the Corro loop.

Anyone wanna meet up and do the ride with me? I may need some gentle nudging on my right side to keep me on the left as I've never ridden a motorcycle on the left side of the road!

Hope some of you can make it!

    - Jon

i get paid the tuesday of that week, which means i will probably want to ride, coromandel sounds good. Where abouts are you staying? Could show you some of the other 'nice' roads around auckland too if you want.

I haven't figured out any of my lodging yet. I was hoping to "wing it" when I got there...

I would LOVE you to show me some of the other 'nice' roads!

I'll put this event into the calendar.

so what bike have you rented and how long have you got the bike for? I think we'll be planning a fair bit of riding for you.

Someone from the shore should be able to guide you to AB on the southern motorway... and then we can do the long way to Coroloop from there. If you start early e.g 8am... we should be able to do the extended loop as well.

    Jon,

Like I said in your other thread, we can tee up and go through Manukau to Clevedon.

Looking forward to going on the Coro with ya

I'm renting a Bandit 600. I'm much more used to a sportier bike, but I think it will do just fine. It seems to be the right balance of fun and expense. I'll have it until the evening of March 2nd, when I have to return it in Auckland.

NhuanH, excellent, so I'll see you around 8:00 - 9:00 at the moto rental place?

    Here's my rough itinerary:

    Day 1 (Saturday, 25-2-06):

Auckland -> Whitford Maratai Coast Road and Clevedon Kawakawa Road to Waitakaruru -> to Coromandel -> follow SH25 all the way around to SH2 -> to Tauranga (stay overnight)

    Day 2 (Sunday, 26-2-06):

Tauranga -> SH2 (buzz past Whakatane) -> start the 35 loop through the East Cape -> all the way around to Gisborne -> SH2 to Napier (stay overnight)

    Day 3 (Monday, 27-2-06):

Napier -> SH2 north to SH5 -> Taupo -> SH1 south to Turangi -> SH1 south to Waiouru -> SH49 west to Tohunga Junction -> SH4 north to SH47 north to Turangi (stay overnight)

    Day 4 (Tuesday, 28-2-06):

Turangi -> SH41 west to Taumarunni -> SH4 to Eight Mile Junction -> SH3 to Te Kuiti -> SH3 north to Hamilton -> SH1 north back to Auckland (stay overnight)

    Day 5 (Wednesday, 1-3-06):

Auckland -> SH1 (to Bryndewyn) -> SH12 (to Ruawai, through Dargaville) -> all the way up through the Waipoua Forest (take the ferry crossing?) -> up to Ahipara or Kaitaia or Awanui (stay overnight)

    Day 6 (Thursday, 2-3-06):

SH10 east -> Waipapa to Kerikeri (to check out the Stone Store) -> SH1 all the way down to Auckland (stay overnight, fly out the morning of the 4th)

My number while I'm in NZ will be: 021 163 6846 - if anyone needs to (or wants to) reach me.

    - Thanx
    - Jon

    Of course I don't!

I kinda figured that. I usually do LONG rides here in SF, but I am sure I'll be adjusting accordingly on this trip...

    Hmm

I may be heading down to Rotorua that weekend so this ride is probably a miss.

May pay to NOT do the Whitford Maratai road on Sat.... that road will be busy (too busy... possible cops too)... Recommend meet at Auto Barn and then we can take the back way out to Marinda..... and to Coromandel from there.

but up to you.... just that AutoBarn would be best if there is going to be a fair group of bikes joining you.
