Ladies Technics Sequoia jacket

I am in the market for a new jacket and saw a lovely Technics Sequoia jacket last week. I tried it on but they only had a 10 so I'd need a 12 to fit over riding pants, but I just wondered if anyone has one or knew what they were like?

It looked lovely and the fit was very nice, as was the price ($299), and there doesn't seem to be that much women's stuff around so I'd be keen to hear any comments about this model. I tried a Spool one on but the sizing was weird - the jackets weren't much different in size, but I found the sleeves incredibly tight on even the large one, and I was only wearing a tee shirt. I didn't like the R Jays one either, too bulky around the neck and chest.

I previously had a DriRider men's jacket that has been great, but it's really bulky and my husband is keen for me to replace it so he can steal it!

I have a size 12, Black. I also used to replace a Small Mens jacket, that never Comfy, has held up in the rain and the vents on the sleeves really work in the hot weather. My only criticism - the velcro at the neck it a bit small and unless you line it up right it comes undone. Easily rememdied with needle and thread I guess.

I had seen it in Kiwi Rider and it looked quite nice, then we were at a friends house and his sister turned up wearing a sequoia jacket. It was really comfortable, and Mr R. said I looked good in it, so I thought I should get one.
You don't seem to be able to get teknic stuff in Rotorua, so I tried on various other things, but wasn't too enthused. The silver spool jacket was nice, bit tight around the arms, and would look a bit geeky with my silver bike. I tried on a nice motoline jacket too, but it had about a million zip-off layers and my shopping companion wasn't so sure about the zip off waterproof lining. And it was nearly $400, which is a lot when you still have trousers, boots, licence etc to buy in the forseeable future.
I was in Taupo on Friday and had a look in some shops there, one stocks Teknic gear, so I've ordered the jacket, and will go to Taupo to try it on when it arrives.

I have a Technics Sequoia which Ive been using for the last 3 winters now, its great in the wet, really comfy to ride in, and they look o.k. too. Though I do find the thermal lining isn't that warm, so in the mid winter freezes you still need extra layers, probably a good idea to get one that still comfortably will fit a layer or two underneath.
Its still water proof even after many torrential down pours. For the money I'd say go for it. They're also really good if the weather turns warm as the removeable liner and vents are great. The only downfall with it is that it's not so comfy to wear around off the bike, as the material is super stiff.

My wife had one till she shrank. It's a great jacket and good value too. I'll check the size, it may suit you. It's only been worn a few times.

My wife has one and she very happy with it also. It's over two years old and it is wearing well and is still waterproof. Her only comment is the same as magicfairy's, that the neck can sometimes come undone if not done up carefully.

I thought the Spool ones were a bit geeky in the all-silver, but the fit was what really put me off - the sleeves felt like a jersey that was four sizes too small!

I usually wear thermals in the winter so as long as it was roomy enough to fit them under, I should be fine. I don't do heaps of riding in the winter anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem.

And I think I can live with the velcro problem (or make a fix!) if that is the only criticism.

One of the bike shops in PN is getting one in for me this week so I can try it with my bike pants and see if the 12 is big enough.

My DriRider one has been great, warm and waterproof, but it always makes me look like I am 10-ton Tessie!

My 2 cents worth...

I went jacket hunting recently, and basically it came down to the Technic or the Spool.
I thought the Ladies Spool jacket was really high in the neck, esp where the velcro does up, but after riding in it, have found that it isn't a problem at all...altho somehow I STILL managed to get stung on the neck...fk knows how? The fit was great, dont seem to have a problem with the arms being too tight (mines a black one not silver...didnt know they came in silver...maybe there is a difference?).
I liked the fit of the Technic, altho perhaps it was a little long, think I prefered the shorter fit of the Spool for me...which is odd cos I'm not a short-bodied person.
What I do like about the Spool is the way it does up, and the way the armour is held in place, I found the Technic armour moved even while I was just trying it on. I think the armour was different between the 2 as well? I know the Spool is plastic, I THINK? the Tecknic was foam...but not positive.
The Spool seemed to be slightly better quality finished product than the technic, stitching looked solid, and I guess reputation for a good product probably swayed me in the end as well. And for only $50 difference between the 2 I decided on the Spool.
Oh yeah and a blokes opinion was that the Spool looked much sexier than the 4 sizes too big leather I still sometimes wear!

Joni got a technic the same time as mine, she may have an opinion about her jacket ...not sure if she tried the Spool, altho we are VERY different body shapes so would prob opt for different jackets anyway.
Good luck...I think whichever you decide will be better than nothing anyway...and isn't it great to actually have a couple of Womens jackets to ven compare for once??

The Spool one I tried was sort of shiny silver all over and the arms were incredibly tight. I tried it with just a teeshirt on and it was really uncomfortable. The R Jays one was annoying because they had gone to the bother of putting the zip on the ladies side - so it did up the opposite to most of the others!

The Technics Sequoia jacket (not sure if there are others) was a good length on me and I am short waisted - it came to just on my hips. The cut was nice too, it came in at the waist and there were heaps of vents for summer riding.

A KBer has kindly offered to send down one they no longer need for me to try - at the price, I'd be tempted to take it even if it isn't big enough to fit winter gear under, as I could use it in summer. If it's too tight even for that, I'll have to get one ordered in a size larger. Or diet. Bugger!

Its funny that...the Spool one I have has the zip on the ladies side as well!
Takes a bit of getting used to, as everything I own does up the other way.

I'm thinking the silver one may have been a different model than the one I have?
Just remembered something else I liked about the Spool; it has zip up pockets, that also fold over as a double precaution so you dont lose items.
The only thing it doesn't have seems to be vents, so far not really been an issue.
I must admit, its great to have a jacket that fits, and the liner can be easily removed to cool off. I love the leather but for those cooler days, and 'risk of rain' kinda days, having a cordura jacket is perfect!

I hadn't seen this type of Spool jacket before - looked a bit too much like the type of jacket spotty teenagers would wear to the mall! But I agree about the pockets - the zip up ones are much better than the velcro. I want pants with zip up pockets too, as the velcro on mine has stretched over the years and the pockets all bulge now.

I hate women's stuff that does up on the so-called ladies side, it's just bloody annoying!

I have a leather jacket too, but I want something that is waterproof for those warm but rain is threatening days. The Technics one just felt so comfortable as soon as I slipped it on, but the real test will be trying it with riding pants and sitting on the bike to see how it is then.

I wear mine with leather bike pants (longer rides) and jeans/trousers with waterproof overtrou (riding to work) and with leather pants and overtrou (long wet rides), without any problems.
