Agree, poodles are crazy dogs, they develop all kinds of phobias/obsessions and get red rages where they just absolutely lose it. If they had the strength and jaws of a pitbull and losers wanted to get them cos they look tuff they would have the same bad rep.

I've had/have a doberman, rhodesian ridgeback and german shepherd. Dobermans have to be extremely well trained and you have to be really careful where you get them from, you will find some are either shy or overly vicious. And you have to be a good experienced owner to handle one. I'd say if you care more about what the dog looks like ie cut off ears/docked tail than who you get it from then and its nature then you shouldn't even consider one.

Ridgebacks are a nice looking dog and are quite large, but also have a tendency to be quite lazy and really stubborn. Not that great with other dogs but very cunning and intelligent. They will also devote themselves more to one owner than an entire family.

The German shepherd is by far my favourite of the three for an all purpose guard dog, family pet and companion. They are extremely intelligent, devoted and really want to please. They also are the best deterent if you train them that way, the bark is deep and especially with the long haired they gain what seems like an extra foot in height when they raise their shackles. The fact they are also used as police dogs is a huge plus, criminals already fear them and are far less likely to want to steal them, having the same dog as the 'pigs' do I guess doesn't appeal to them quite as much.

But if your a first time owner I wouldn't even really consider a purebred until you know what your doing and know what to look for in a breeder. Get a mongrel from the pound, theres a ton to choose from and all have been checked out. They make great dogs and aren't as prone to the same personality and physical disorders that pure breds can be.

I'd advise against it on the grounds that the dog will have ear problems. One of the reasons it's not done in this country. Most reputable Doberman breeders will not sell a dog for the reasons that you state. You want the dog to look vicious as looking nazi like. Sounds like you have a problem with your image and need a vicious looking dog so that people take notice of you.

Tis true. Mikey needs a tough looking dog cos he looks like such a raving homosexual.

Maybe a poodle's not the best idea. Even if it is rabid and has blooding dripping from it's snarling jaws he would still look gay as the day with it.

ive been told vets wont chop ears. why cant you pay a vet to do it? would be far less cruel to the dog. and anyway of buying anaesthetic from a chemist or vets?

i did have problems buying a suturing needle to stitch my hand up after some drunken fucker stabbed me in my own home. doctor wouldn give me a needle, nor would the chemist, told me to get the doctor to do it but there was a 5 million hour queue an you have to pay them 100 bucks for a little bit of string....

so anyone know of any purebred doberman pups for sale, pref chopped ears an docked tail already so i dont have to. which i wont. cause i couldn hack away at somethings ears while its alive. preferbaly an black/tan more black than tan. all black would be cool.
You ever had a dog before?? A Doberman will need some amount of training and handling if you want it to become a decent guard dog. They are pretty hungry chaps too so I hope there's cash available for some chow.

Ok Badcat you're on, I formally volunteer to do the cutting. Now, let's see - I have a rusty old Stanley knife in my toolbox and I think we'll dispense with the alcohol and piece of wood for biting on, eh?

Mikey - I'm no greenie, I'm no vegetarian but this sort of attitude really pisses me off.
