    Harley rider bins it...

    Motorcyclist critical after police chase

    17.02.06

A motorcyclist who crashed his Harley-Davidson while being chased by police was in a critical condition in hospital early this morning.

The six-minute chase started about 9.40pm on the Southern Motorway when police noticed the Harley had a faulty tail-light and reached 80km/h through the residential streets of Mt Wellington.

It ended when the motorcycle, followed closely by a police car, failed to take a gentle bend on Commissariat Rd just before the intersection with Aranui Rd. Witnesses say the rider stood up but collapsed immediately.

Nurses who live in the street tended the unconscious man until an ambulance took him to Auckland City Hospital.

The man's employer, who had been riding with him on his own Harley, said his staff member should have pulled over, but he criticised the police for following too closely. He said the damaged Harley was worth $75,000.

    ~~*~~

What a dick... cops were following to closely maybe he shouldn't have been speeding in a residental area...

Also who watched Motorway Patrol the other night... "motorcycle" accident was a guy on a scooter... same difference some might say, but thats just painting a bad image of bikers because of a scooter...

Dunno where he crashed, because there are no bends on Commisariat Rd just before the intersection with Aranui Rd....I've crashed and spun out on nearly every corner in that area.

Doing a runner because your tail light is out....doing a runner while your boss is watching.....doing a runner on a $75,000 motorcycle.

I'd say exessive stupidity was a contributing factor in this accident.

Motu mate, he was probably just another rich bastard and deserved to crash anyway. It's not fair that someone else should ride a bike better than mine. Boo hoo. Besides, he was probably part of that breakaway division of the HOG's that oppossed the Speedway.

I'd say his stupidity was spending $75000 on a Harley. He could have imported one from the states and saved at least $25000.

One of my bosses rides a custom HD (only on perfect sunny days... so he doesn't ride often)... he's now got all the upper managment males wanting HD's... Suppose it's like buying a Ferrari and hardly using it to keep the K's down to keep the value *shrugs*

Oh boy,I haven't even baited my hook and you're snapping away....you do have a problem don't you.Having to defend your situation before you've even been taken to task about it is a bit suspicious....a guilt complex? Go for a ride,it's good therapy....

Lucky the guy wasn't riding a sports bike, otherwise we'd all be blaming the Cops for his crash and not his bike....

    Thats so true...

*really shouldn't pick on the HD riders... generally they are bigger, rougher and stronger than me* (fortunatley in this case... not smarter)

    Lighten up folks..

Everyone has the right to follow their own star and just because we can't see the value of a $75,000 HD thungume wassit does not mean others don't. Personally I'd rather have 10 oily old heaps for that much but everyone knows I'm odd.. Just remember, "Those who hear not the music, think the dancers mad"

Having said that! (and I'm sure the gentleman in question would now agree) It's plain DUMB to do a runner for a busted tail light full stop! The type of bike does not come into it!

We have all fucked up in life, all done stupid things, often repeatedly but here is a guy that may loose his life, maybe a family may loose a father or a son over a friggin tail light! Please let me never be so daft!

Guess doing a "runner on an Harley" depends a little on the HD doesn't it?
