Blah Been having a look 'round the bike shops lately.

Since I can get my full mid February, I've started having a look around the net for what I want for my next bike.

Went around some of the bike shops yesterday aswell, sat on a few bikes, but there seems to be one standout...

    The Yamaha XTX660 Supermotard!

    Why?

I only started looking into motards after riding round on my cousins 200cc dirtbike over christmas. Sure, the brakes barely worked and the suspension was completely farked, but within a couple of days riding it, 2nd gear wheelies were no problem, and riding the bike overall was just a ridiculous amount of fun, and even thinking about taking that kind of riding on to the road, its hard not to muster a smirk or cheeky grin.

Yes, I know this bike is heavy, and is no 100+hp sportbike, but I dont care, I talked to one of the guys at bayride and I'll be test riding one in Feb.

Sure, I went around to the other bike shops, sat on a VTR1000, which was quite nice, looked at the SV's, cool, then sat on a CBR600RR, what a joke, ass up in the air, clip-on's almost lower than the seat, I felt almost vertical, and can see why people call the hardcore sportsbikes 'Crotch-rockets', not a riding position I would want on my next bike (the GSX has quite raise clip-ons). One of the others I liked was the aprilia shiver, but I dont have a shit show of affording one of them.

The test ride will obviously make or break it, but from what ive read, it sounds like a shitload of fun through the twisties and backroads...

Looks like I might have to keep the GSX for longer than intended though :edit: a hell of a lot longer, to build up some decent funds since I dont have as much as I thought I would at this point, so a new sprocket is on the way so atleast the bike will sit at lower rev's on the open road.

...and in traffic! ZERO regrets changing to a motard styled machine and in fact I'm enjoying my motorcycling a lot more now days because of it.
Mate...a power load of fun it to be had at sub 100hp levels!

Good on you for not being a sheep and looking at something that turns on your motorcycling for you. Find a way to make it happen, more new bikes in the Tga crew required

I did one of those just out of Kaiapoi (Nth Canterbury) back in 1988, fair shit myself when I was taken down the run as a pillion. Would love to come but in Whangarei that weekend. No matter, I do recommend everyone does this at least once in their motorcycling lives
