Paeroa Post classic class - Very disapointed

I'm not on very often but like to think I have something to say when I do post.

Paeroa was a great day. Awesome ride down via Corromandel, awesome weather, awesome crowd, awesome racing.

But............
I was very disapointed being a Z1r owner that the Post classics only got 6 laps for the whole day. Bloody hard on the competitors paying for motels, travel etc etc for 6 laps all day. Some how at the end the Motards where put in front of them in a programme reshuffle and then they ran out of time. Don't get me wrong the Motards are fantastic but they can cross enter into bears and F2 as well as their own class so they get plenty of racing from what I have seen.

The Post classic is a large and fast class and I was gonna leave a bit early to go the long way home but waited for their second race.

In karting we got 5 x 10-12 lap races per day maybe we where spoilt but I wouldn't go to all that expense and hassle for only 6 laps on any track anywhere. Wouldn't blame that class for not turning up next year and that would be a very big chunk of biking history left out of the mix.

oh by the way did you see those Pirelli Girls!!! Far to young but very tastfully dressed!!

I know how you feel - the Classic and Post Classic guys are second class at these events,if any races need to be pulled it's theirs,while someother mundane race is put in it's place.I really only go to watch the older bikes and sidecars - identical modern bikes screaming past holds no interest for me....in those races I go check out the bike park and pits.Strange,but other people do just the opposite....

i hear one race was cancelled on the day. I know of several hostile letters to the organising committee being penned as we speak.

unfortunately the event needs to be closed by 5pm so that they can open the main street to traffic by 6pm... that seems wierd to me as they only need to move two sets of barricades/bails/fences and is all ready to go...

I was pretty pissed too - those vintage bikes were a joy to watch and from Point 6 where I was marshalling they did not seem that much slower than the F3 boys and even some of the F2 boys..... and the sound

What's the big deal about those dirt bikes anyway??

Is there a class somewhere where GSXR1000's and R1's race in the dirt with knobblies??

Yes there is...

Round 1 is almost any KB group ride and round 2 is the cold kiwi rally...

That's how Motard started - they made a track with a mixture of seal,dirt,left,right and a speedway corners,then got riders from each disaplin to ride...bike choice optional.The bike that worked best was a dirt bike with road wheels.A road racer with knobs was a bad choice....

Dont forget F3 as well, was very shit that the Old bike didnt go out, hell every motard rider would of already had a few races so I dont see why they didnt bump them!

Its the old guys on those classics that are the backbone of racing, you loose their support alot of things would become more difficult I am guessing.

Ah I see, thanks for the explanation.

Motards are great if the course does include "a mixture of seal,dirt,left,right and speedway corners" cos that's their natural place - like at Taupo where they have that dirt section - but on a purely tarmac event - I wonder if they really belong in it.

It's a capacity limit,not a style limit.Advancement comes from experimentation,if a particular style of bike suits a particular track,why not go for it.Motard also suits some riders preference.That's why I find the pure racing class so boring - but a Buel against a 250 2 stroke is exciting.One of the best races I've ever seen was at Paeroa a couple of years ago - Vince Sharp on the CB750 against the TM400,the bikes couldn't of been further apart in purpose,but it was sooooo exciting seeing them battle it out.

I was in the pits at the time listening to the announcer and they shuffled the classes then canned the race and the guys on the Z900's etc had their leathers on ready and where waiting to put their helmets on. The guy I saw looked gutted.

Not sure why they couldn't have gone 1/2 hour over their resource consent I'm sure everyone in Paeroa wouldn't have minded. The Paeroa people are bloody fantastic. Beaurocuracy for its Beaurocuracy's sake I suppose the organisers are prob scared some dickhead is going to try and can the meeting because they went over time.

Not sure why the resource couldn't have had a longer time specially with daylight saving etc to allow for the odd accident or start the racing earlier maybe??

Not sure why a couple of the classes couldn't have been combined ie New side cars and older ones with a staggered start to save time.

Not sure why they canned a class that had done 1 race over guys that had prob done 4 or more. (don't get me wrong I'm not having a go at Motard its spectacular)

Not sure why everyone racing seemed to be my age or older. Where have the young guys gone???

Not sure why a couple of you skilled stunt guys doing donuts, stoppies and Wheelies (like at the pukekohe V8's) didn't come out during the longer accident breaks to keep the croud entertained. (now thats a good idea)

Not sure why the Parelli girls didn't want to drag me away?????hehe!!

Not sure why I don't shut up and get on with my day!!

Thats a very good idea! since they would be stunting on the straights where no one tends to crash

BUT --the problem is they only have SH2 able to be closed untill 6.00pm
I have issues too with bikes being able to crossenter--Ida thought the rule should be 1 bike 1 class.-
The whole day ran behind shedule--If first practice (novice) started at 8.15 as it was soposed to then all would have run to time.
Even allowing for the two nasty crashes during the day.
That said --NOONE there running that meeting was getting paid -other than a motelroom and a couple of feeds -they do it for the love of the sport.
Ohh and reckless-the issue with classic chairs and moderns being combined is the speed difference --as you can imagine in the tight sections.
