Oxford Humpback Tankbag

After the Sth Is trip last year I figured I'd need a bigger tank bag than my Givi 10 litre jobby to fit a bigger camera, sunny's, visor cleaning gear and all the other crap you need within reach.
I didn't want to spend too much on something that I wouldn't use much so I first tried the 1st Time range. But the tank bag was too long and pushed into my gut.
Next step was the Humpback. This was perfect, it sat nicely between me and the bars and didn't interfere with movement. It tapers towards the rear to give a little more room for more radical riding positions too.
It has the usual fine Oxford quality, they say they're designed by bikers and it's believable. There's two side pockets, one at the front and it expands to 28 liters.
It's about 20 litres normally. Like most Oxford kit, it comes with 4 bungy's, tie down straps and a headstock strap, so it should fit most bikes OK, even plastic tank models. Or you can buy the specific non-steel tank mount.
It's easily unzipped from it's mount and makes refuelling easy. Shoulder straps are fitted to convert it to a packpack.
It did the job well on tour, swallowed all our odds and sods and remained stable. I used an under tank strap, but probably could have done without. All the zips have large rings on them to enable you to open it with gloves on.
All told it was a good buy, retail is $285.00 for black, red, blue, yellow. Platinum is a little more. They come with a lifetime warranty.

I purchased an Oxford tank bag in January, don't know what model, but it was utter shit compared my Fox tankbag. It fell to bits. I split it in three places and wasn't punishing it. So I had to move some stuff out of the tank bag into my old Kathmandu backpack, which I punished severly (Like shoving my foot in it while doing up the zips) and it didn't fail me like the Oxford did. It was crap and I will never get one ever again. I had to change away from my Fox bag because it wasn't magnetic and there was no way in hell I could get it secure on the RVF. I have sent it back to the distributor and I am waiting for their answer at the moment.

It wasn't faulty, it was cheap.

The zips were not double stiched and were stitched on with light-weight thread. I split the top flap zip twice, once on the left and once on the right. I then split the right front side, which again wasn't attached in a serious fashion.

I compared it to my Fox bag, it was made with sturdier zips, double stiching everywhere and the fabric was much heavier.

I wish I had taken photos, once I got it back I was going to take photos and put them on here as a warning to others. I was very dissapointed with how badly the bag held up. I've have even subjected the Fox bag to airline baggage handlers.

I've had my Oxford tankbag for over three years now. I've had Mr Bag Man restitch the zipper as the attaching threads wore out, but apart from that it goes just fine. I don't know what model mine is but it's cavernous and cuboid and black. I fucked its original rain cover a couple of years ago when tankbag, ZRex and Hitcher went for a wee slide on the Rimutakas. But Mrs H (bless her) made me a replacement out of rainproof fabric.

Soon, like me hopefully, it will be off riding again!
