Computers to go in police cars

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3577579a28,00.html

Police will get computers in their cars soon, they'll be able to keep up to date with Kiwi Biker while they're on the road.

Anyone know when they'll fit them to the bikes?

To be an investment one has to expect a return. Let's hope they don't mean that this crime fighting tool will be used to issued tickets faster.

Thats a great move. It will free up a lot of radio traffic, which will enhance safety and allow for crime fighting initiatives to be conducted move covertly, rather than broadcasting details for all to hear.

Give the bike patrols these oqo's with a 3G wireless card and voice recongition software. Could help cut down the paper work / office visits as well with a few well written apps.

That and RFID tags , just think , you could do the an entire motorcycle shop inventory and stock take in a few hours. People and poor process create paper work , most people don't clearly spec or understand what their requirements are so put manual systems around the computer systems as well.

Put it this way , say your going to have a customer function for a few hundred to promote your latest product lunch and want to encourage a few new ones.

    Do you

A, go through your filofax and get peoples numbers and start dialing a few hunderd customers and miss the ones that you haven't recorded.
    (Days of work)

b, go through each individaul customer record on your database , write that down on some paper , and call and email each one
    Days of work)

C, Click on customer notifcation app , mass email those customers that do have email , and give you a list of numbers for people that don't.
    (Hours of work)

D, none of the above , Just put one post on Kiwibiker.

    (minutes of work)

Im on the fence with this. Will be interesting to see the advantages over the disadvantages

Big advantage for me is that scanners won't be quite the useful tool to crims they are at the moment (Like SC says).

Fucken brilliant idea for the police, this will make them a lot more productive in their job of giving out infringement tickets and harrassing people.

On the other hand, this is brilliant for people wanting to avoid police.

They'll have more electronic equipment emitting unique frequencies making it a lot more easier to develop detection equipment to indetify police vehicles on the road.

So they're gonna give them laptops and a secure website? (I didn't bother reading the article) Seems like something that coulda been done ages ago. They'll only find an excuse to can it anyway and increase the workload for those that do have 'em. I wonder if the lads will be able to do their paperwork while out and about instead of having to trundle back and forth to the stationhouse?
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,

No I think the emphasis is freeing up the Communications operators from doing the mundane tasks such as QP's and QVR's (checking up on people and vehicles).

Quite often police have to wait a fair duration to get a response and the whole process can be delayed if your working in South Auckland when your passing over the name of an Islander. Takes foreverrrrrr.
