Design by committee... too close to home (well, my working day).

On a side note: why are the designers I have to deal with all air-heads? Nice packages but nothing inside? Is this a Wellington thing?

    god - so true.
as an ex-microsoft consumer products employee, whoever did that was obviously a staffer - the language is so spot on.
yeah, microsoft is really gonna nail apple's ass to the wall with it's latest effort to rival the iPod....

yeah bill, you go get 'em.....

I am Jack's complete lack of remorse .

Ahhh....that would explain the passionate ipod/MS arguement that we had a while ago .

Well done Buggy. Lots of work for whoever came up with that!

LOL, had a good chortle at this one, pretty darn accurate too.

Trouble is, I work at a retail store, and we deal with many iPod issues every day. I wish Apple had made them more user friendly and less prone to crashing themselves and the computers they attach to. Have heard of a couple of instances where an iPod has caused a power spike frying the motherboard! They really were realeased too quickly for the finer points to be sussed... and people with below average intellect are always calling in on us saying "My iPod dun broke agen.."

Us: Ring the sodding helpline, if I see one more f%$&ing iPod today...

Yeah, but I'm guessing a couple of things here... that you haven't had to deal with endless Nano and Video issues since realease... And that you aren't below average intellect and know how sensitive their feelings are (hang on a sec... this is BJ, that can't be right... ) We get so many problems come back to us, especially with the Nano, that I've lost confidence in the product. I sell it with the fear the customer will come back and need someone to hold their hand and tell them it will all be just fine...

    Ring the helpline! LOL

    you comin onto me..??

I bought the gf a nano actually, for chrimbo, after she kept going on about how much she wanted it, and where she'd use it etc etc.. she's used it once..
I'd use it instead, but my small collection wouldn't fit on it, and I like the fact mine has a remote too. I know the newer ones do, but you have to buy them separately, which I can't be arsed for not-my-nano.. I like the radio remote tho

I wish the radio remote from my Gen3 would fit my Nano. What issues are people having with the Nanos Dev?

the nano has it's bits in different places tho, doesn't it..?? so it won't fit..

speaking of music etc, Apple just released a iPod Hi-Fi which would be interesting to hear.. Shame it's not a 'stereo' unit as such, can't place the speakers further away from each other.. but I guess it's the boombox of the 80's back

Yeah, only the dock connector. Got a radio remote for it (UHF probably) but it covered the headphone jack too. Not too clever on the salesperson's behalf.

All sorts. You name it, they can come up with it.

"My computer won't recognise my iPod! I've done everything right... I even installed the software first and didn't plug the iPod in until it told me to (this is a whole other issue...), and it won't work! HELP!!"
Me: "What operating system are you running?"
    "What do you..."
Me: (interrupting gormless individual): "What version of Windows?"
"(Long pause) Windows 98 (or Windows ME... or I dunno!)"
Me: "Restart your computer, leaving said iPod plugged in..."
Naturally it all works from there. That one's not really the iPod's fault, more that Win98 / ME finds restarting an orgasmic experience and likes to do it as often as possible at any excuse.

But I still get that issue with XP. And many others from "My songs won't play... (some twit had put a pile of .wmas on there and wondered why they wouldn't work)" to "it won't charge" "it won't turn on" "it makes my computer shut down randomly" "this is the 3rd one I've had that's died in the last 6 months (whose dog is chewing on it?)"...

    *Sigh*

Ring the helpline. Tee hee... when in doubt, delegate.

They usually work well when stroked the right way. As I said, not designed for people with below average competance with technamalogical devices.

just tell them to use windows for their PC (as in throw it thru) and buy a mac. Then you'll never see anyone back for problems again..
