My leather jacket I wear to uni keeps the water out just fine! Mainly the seams of leathers that leak, and using sno seal and the like can help heaps
Where can you buy this Sno Seal stuff from?

Right, you supply me with a human hide, and I'll see about getting it tanned. I don't think it'll protect you as well in a crash though

In my experience, rain doesn't "hurt"the leather, but when you dry it out in hot water cupboard etc, it dries the leather out, which in turn means it doesn't protect as well in an off, if the leather is well looked after, IE dubbin, sno seal, leather conditioner, it shouldn't really be a problem, but it's easy to miss looking after the leather, cause it isn't the most fun thing to do.

aw guys im still round to help

leather is a natural material made fron the hide of animals. if you want to protect & prolong the life of your leathers - you must clean and condition them; rain will really dry out leather because the rain evaporates from your leathers.  it pulls moisture away from the skin. i recomend conditioning your leathers once it dries, when ever caught in the rain.

leather requires frequent conditioning to replace the natural lubricants lost during normal use, just as your own skin dries out when exposed to the elements, so will your leather.  a good conditioner will help stop rain, spills, or anything wet from getting into your leather and staining it.

Never use waxes, silicon products, or aerosol sprays, they will impair the leather's ability to "breath".  products will clog the pores of leather, that is why they make leather accessories waterproof.  it will also eventually dry out your leathers because the pores are cloged. (may have an advantage for boots though)

    Wet Leathers

ok so you get caught in the rain and your leathers are soaked

    1. if possible use a dry towel & soak up as much as you can - dont rub - just blot. if towel not handy shake as much wetness from the leather

    2. let leathers dry naturally avoiding direct heat or sunlight

    3. when leather nearly dry, apply a little conditioner to restore flexibility. followed by full conditioning treatmedt when leather is totaly dry.

get some good wet weather gear. waxed cotton is premo

Bought a ladies jacket from Quasi a week or so ago. Beautiful quality and the leather is really soft. Very generous sizing,(good news for the more voluptuous of us) so plenty of room to pop a jumper (or two) under in the winter, and very fast postage too. Thanks Quasi, looking at your pants now, do they have plenty of room for lady type hips and thighs?

I got some trousers a while back, and used them going from hamilton to Wellington and back.

the thighs were a bit tight at first but they stretch out beautifully. They breath very well, never got sweaty in them although it was a bit chilly in taupo and near the mountains.

They are incredible comfortable especially the silk liner you can ride as long as you want in them and they feel the same as when you started.

    cheers quasi
