Wow, that truck had the road pretty much covered, would have had to wait a while for emergency vehicles to move it! Nice gixxer lineup too, not that i enjoy saying that.

was a good day, all the people that came over to whitianga made it back safely. Had a good pace over the hill with SPman's group of gixers(more 2much's group - SP) close on the tail of buggy and myself. Was an awesome pace, but nothing rediculously stupid!

Met some boyracers as we refuelled at whitianga and was prompted to do a wheelie on my way to the public toilets... didnt eventuate the way i planned due to a bit of traffic but still got it up all the same. Shit, i even managed one in the middle of the twisties as i passed the boyracers and a van later on, twas only a foot or so high but in the middle of the twisties (and me at the controls) i was pretty chuffed

really enjoyed it, especially with my MP3 player going the whole time, some good music meant that the journey up the coast by myself was rather interesting - kinda like my own riding video

Great day, thanks for putting it together Zed

Had a fairly early start, meet up with WeeStormer in Vegas
thru pyes pa in the rain to meat 2much and Saul
    off to paeroa then kopu.
Took it fairly easy in the group ride,
no more than 5/10ths etc as i had a dream i binned it last night...
Some fantastic roads up there! especailly enjoyed the 25 & 35k corners just out of coromandel
the thou feels so light compared to my old bike

had a good ride back, Thanks 2much and sp man.
i really enjoy riding with you guys (and saul),
well tuned road users you are

Nice to meet a few new faces,
sorry i didn't meet you all, im a little shy IRL

Look forward to the next time!
    Regards, Allan.

    wow, what a ride..

Thanks for organising it Zed, was a good run.

I'm crap at 2 things - writing post-ride reports when I'm this knackered, and remembering faces and names.. but here goes..

Hadn't done the whole loop before, so I was quite keen to get this one in while the weather is still somewhere decent. I've been up both sides a couple of times, but never gone from Coro town to fitianga (woteva). Boy, what have I been missing!!

The ride started off all well, aside from the roadworks that got my clean bike dirty. mmmm poor bike.
Got to Kopu, no dramas, everything all cushty. So we start off the ride, and it's all not too bad. But the traffic was all in the good bits!! ARGH!! Got stuck behind some X11 thing, too fat to pass, so I had to watch. Got a nice pace going, then caught up to more traffic, headed by a large truck. The truck was carrying roof panels secured down by ratchet straps and wood. They bounced off and into the road! CaN2 was just behind and darted out the way. CaN1 was right behind and avoided the wood too. I saw it in plenty of time, and thought I'd kick it out of the road.. mmmm ouch. Bloody hurts kicking a 4x4 2ft long bit of timber out the road.. but worked.

Managed to pass the truck and traffic, and on with the ride. Not too much more drama, but a good ride. Got to fitianga (woteva) for some fuel, stopped at the round about and passed on some other riders, then was told to carry on myself. I got lost in the town, but soon found the gas station. I also noted how lonely I was there.. mmm no other bikes. I saw Saul pass and point the other way, thought fairy fluff, I'll be right there, just need gogo juice. Gassed up, headed off.. still no one around. So thought I'd just follow the signs, and hope the rest of the group managed to head the right way. Still no one around, so a solo run it is. Open her up,, and I'm greeted with the 34kms to Coromandle township, with the 20 odd of twisties. That was fun. Some serious left-right-left-left-right-left etc etc roads to be had, and good surface to boot. I managed to catch up to Perhipial (sp..??) about 10kms from the end, then started to catch up to the end runners few by few. Those corners.. man, they're awesome. Hadn't done 25k corners at 65 before..

Anyway, get to coromandle, and looks like I've been along with the rest of the group all the time.. Grab some lunch while reflecting on the last stretch, and decide it has to be done again. Garethd came the other way, so he's effectively going back. CaN 1&2 are going, and so is ChickenFunkStar..?? so it'll be a good run. We part with the rest with a courtesy wheelie, and we're back on the good stuff, but with some company. Gareth is kinda there when I back off to look, but I'm havin too much fun, so buggerit. The twisties just keep comin and comin. Get to fitianga again, have a chin wag for half an hour, then we carry on. The roads that were covered with traffic, are now fairly free. So more fun.

No real dramas again, just tryin to push the envelope on every corner that wee bit more. Man, it's physical to go that hard for that long - I should know.. The tyres and bike are holding up well. Shame the road gave at one point. The exposed tar was melting a little, the front slid across the lane and put me on the white line. I sat it up to stop the front from going any further and loose the 'cornering momentum' to find myself in the middle of the road. No probs. Hello van.. For some reason, the van was only a mere minor technicality. I was already over it just as I saw it, and I was already lining up for the next corner. The van is just an obstacle.. strange way of thinking, i thought. But hey, i'm still here, so something upstairs must have been working right.

For the rest of the ride to Kopu was just pure fun and little traffic. I get there to find Postie had text me to say that they had made it an hour earlier. So we natter for a bit longer, then head back via the miranda route onto 2, and back up the motorway in our little cluster. Got bored, so we had to entertain ourselves at 100kphandthensome just to make the time pass..

The whole day was a good day. Nothing went wrong, I'm utterly cream crackered, and had a blast. The pace was good, and so was the company all round. Bloody enjoyed the day and meeting the people. And I'd do it all again tomorrow.
I had noticed when I got home, that my chain was bone dry, so might need a new one now, but I think I've rooted the wheel bearing too. have to check that out later.. Went and inhaled a subway in record time, and now I'm gonna chill for a bit

anyway, look how long I've rabbited on for!! bling for whoever bloody reads this dribble.

Anyway, to sum it up, had fun, thanx Zed and company

Doh - think about it Steve, he's ridng along and 100's of insects are flying at his head per second and by chance a bee survives the impact of the visor and gets flicked into Posties collar, then crawls over and inserts it's sting into the poor guys flesh, injecting him with a weak poison which is a mere irritation to Mr P, he's a tuff lad.

Thank you Zed for the awesome day.
It was a long one for me as I have only just got back to Rotovegas.
Thanks to Kiwifruit, 2much & Saul for the company on the way up & sorry I missed you on the way home....I went of up the Thames coast side with the others & then sat in the Kopu pub waiting for you to turn up until it become obvious you weren't going to. Then went back into Thames and spent couple hours with the olds.
Felt really good this morning but as the day progressed my riding turned to shit & I really was not happy......Coro to Thames was the pits for me.
Good to see so many different people enjoying themselves & being responsible.
Really impressed with your new bike Steve. No offence taken on the passing maneuvers, just don't get carried away!!
    Till next time people.

    Hiya,

Gareth d, Was that you heading North into Coromandel about 12-12.30ish on your own mate?

The three bikes heading South were myself a mate on a red R1 and a Gold Speed triple. We were doing the loop anticlockwise and left earlier this morning and had been riding at a good hard pace.

Great day for riding. The roadworks along the coast were a pain Had to slow the pace there a bit.

both me and CaN2 had bees/wasps fly up into behind our visors (at different times of course) at open road speed... which is wierd. She stopped and got it out, i managed to open my visor and let it fly away on the go... still a wierd experience.

Yeah I waz behind you for a while along that west coast from Coro to Kopu, must admit i didn't enjoy it as much as the other side; traffic, narrow roads, and fatigue were the negative factors for me...the rest of the ride though waz tops!

not sure on the timing but that does sound about right to me. You know what i look like, then again, last time i saw you you spent 99% of the time in front of me so i was probably looking pretty small in your mirrors
