    Rotating cylinder valve engine

Found this today, seems very interesting, does anyone know why it is only viable on under 250cc engines? Compression to high??

that's quite interesting for another approach..

must be a dozen designs for the combustion engine now

May be the spinning valve is only safe to a certain size and compression. Any bigger and it might not turn as effectively.. ?? may be..

Just the same as a rotary valve, but by rotating the cyl.I see problems with good end gas evacuation, same as a 2 stroke with an exhaust port in the cyl,it will require some trickery to get good clean charge filling.Bet a face gear is noisy as too.

A modern version of the sleeve valve aero engines, Napier Sabre was one (I think).
They were very quiet in operation, but lubrication was an issue.

No,it's just a rotary valve incorperating the cyl as well.I now see the actual ports are up in the combustion chamber...it's just a cone type rotary valve with the drive in the crankcase and not the cyl head.Piston ring groove wear will be an issue, the rings will spinning on the piston as well as going up and down.Looks like a dumb idea to me.But then I would of said TradeMe was a dumb idea too.
