    F1 (car) qualifying last night.

Did anyone see this (was on sky about midnight). If so, what do you think of the new qual format. To me, it seemed more interesting than the actual race.

From memory, actual race is tonight on sky (about midnight) - although someone might need to double check.

Yeah i watched the replay at 8 and it was very interesting. Sort of like the superpole for superbikes but they get 20 mins for the top 10 instead of 1 flying lap. Might spice up motogp if they changed it to that.

I watched it - seemed very messy to me at least in the first two "knockout" sessions. I reckon it would be better if you split the field in two and have two knockouts each of 20 minutes with 11 cars in each of them, either randomly drawn or from the results of the previous grand prix, knocking out 4 or 5 cars from each of the sessions. That way they have more time to get the cars off the track and turn them around for the next qualifying session, much like the last part of the qualifying they already had where the remaining cars still able to improve their times go out again for another twenty minute session and nail it.

But it still won't make it like superbikes...

Yeah i watched it i agree the qual was a lot more interesting than whats its normally has been. Personally, the return to tyre changes during the race is a good thing also, i think its going to make for better racing. Also be interesting to see how the V8's will stack up against the old V10's already they're saying a 200 hp drop (?)

oh thank fuck for that, the part of F1 differnt to normal racing was how important tatics and management of a race are handleled, this change will hopefully see a return of proper racing and less of a parade, well will have to see in an hour or so!

Well, there was a lot more passing last night and only a minor amount in the pits.

I think it will be an interesting season with lots of changes. Here's a couple of pics I have from 3 seasons ago. You should have seen the croud jump when this car crashed right in front of us. When the crane lifted the car off the track the fuel started spilling onto some people. I didn't have a good camera on me so excuse the quality.
