    Killer Kites.

I was reading that some city in India wants to ban a kite festival because 7 people have been killed by kite strings!
Apparently they have kite 'duels' and they re-inforce the string with fibreglass and use powdered glass in the mix, all to cut the opponents strings. The trouble is that errant kites have cut peoples throats including a child and some bikers.
    Who woulda thunk it?
    Speed doesn't kill people.
    Stupidity kills people.

Cool, why would they want to stop such a fun activity
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

It's India, there's a lot of them - what's the problem? They'd lose more through malnutrition and poverty than by kite string I'd wager.
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

Empathy is not one of your strong points is it.

Yeah I used to do a little kite-fighting when I was a kid in Nepal - used broken lightbulbs and cooked rice (ground into a paste) on the line. Gotta take care not to handle the lines as they are razor sharp! The kites aren't your placid hover-in-the air types either - they're very edgy and nimble and can dart around really quickly if you know what you're doing. The idea is to wrap your line around someone else's (by spinning the kite around it) and alternatively letting the line go and reeling it in until one of the lines gets cut through..

Problems happen when the downed kites' lines get strewn across town for kms (esp. across streets).. imagine riding through one at neck level..
Slob by name, not by nature..

19 died last year, 7 so far this year. When is the government going to step in and regulate flying in India? Only allowed to fly in formation, uniform kite size, learner plates attached to new kite fliers etc.
Speed limits are just a suggestion, like pants.
