Chch help needed

I've just bought myself a second bike, an old dungga for travelling to and from work. However, there's a few jobs that I need to do first to get back on the road.

I need a C spanner, has anyone got one that I can borrow? The steering head bearings are a bit suspect on the old dungga and need investigating. (There's a slight 'notch' straight ahead and the bearings are dry - they're probably rooted but I want to check them first before committing myself).

Has anyone access to a angle grinder, welder, and some free time to do a bit of welding for me (I have no idea on welding)? The baffle inside one of the mufflers is loose and rattling so I want to chop the muffler open, secure the baffle, and weld it all back together again. I'd be willing to share the dozen cans of your favourite beverage I'll bring around as payment for time and effort.

As rough as it sounds most people, even mechanic's just use a brass drift and a hammer.
Some time you have to grind the tip of the drift so you get a better fit.
By the way "C" spanners come in different size's so it may pay to tell us what size you are after.

Ise got an angle grinder that will cut the can open OK. Ise also got a welder but as it is unadjustable would just blow holes through the can .

The grinder is available if you want to use it.

I guess the C spanner wants to be somewhere around the 50mm mark in answer to lemans question. I had thought of beating the crap out it but there's nothing quite like using the proper tool.

It should not have be done up to tight.
So a good tap should free it up.
Then you can use your hand to loosen it and retighten it up.
Then a good tap(s) to lock it up again.
Generally the only "C" spanner type nut that gets crap beaten out of it is the rear shock spring adjusting nut.

But you are right the tool is best.
I seen a set of then at George Henry in Manchester St.
You better sit down when you hear the price.
It's a tool I am always meaning to buy.

Now, re the baffle, have you not learned a thing from us? why the hell do you want to re secure the bloody thing...... rip it out biff it in the bin and be done with it.

ps: then ya can do the same with that 1100cc vacume cleaner

The XZ's haven't got the best of reputations I know, but in this case the history of the bike is known plus I know the guy I bought from quite well. He has it had for 7 years without a problem, so fingers crossed. Besides it cost me next to nothing and if it can save wear and tear and the real bike then why not?
