    Headphones in yer helmet

I have a pair of oldish around-the-back-of-the-neck headphones that I would like to disassemble and put into my helmet (for listening to iPod on long journeys). I guess Ill be hacking the headphone 'pads' off the 'band' and sticking some velcro and inserting them into my helmet.

Anyone have any experience performing this mod? Id just go ahead and do it but I dont want to ruin good (albeit old) headies.

    My 'mut is an HJC-CL14

well MAKE SURE you have enough room inside by the ear because as like i found they fitted in my but not weasel's so make sure they can fit in first, but yeah pull the cable out of the black plastic around your head carefully cause it has been known to snap easily

Or just not bother and get some of the smaller in-ear headphones...

I use those and they're nice and snug... act kinda like earplugs as well so they drown out road / engine noise

I have bud type ear phones but they get dislodged when I put my mut on. They are 6years old so maybe something a bit more modern? Wont spend more than $50 max.

Might work, but everyone is right, it's the clearance that'll catch you out. What you really need to know is how big the actual speaker part is on each side, as you don't want any of the plastic or padding anyway, but you'll have to open the ear piece to find that out. That probably means breaking it open.

If you really want to install sounds into your lid, and bar using bud earphones (can be a pain in the...ear..I know ) You can autually buy pillow speakers that are soft and designed to put inside your pillow at night. There a mono speaker, but two of them could be converted into stereo, probably eaiser than converting headphones.

Of course in saying that I can't remember where I've seen them before...Dick Smith maybe, or one of those random catalogues that get sent out. They were around the $20 price mark if I remember.

Koss Ear Buds - $69, I think. Good sound quality, just get some better foam ear plugs and stick the sound duct through them.

sefer: oh yeah. I was going to leave the headphone plastic and foam alone. Just remove the behind the head bar part.
I know you can buy helmet headphones, but probably a rip.

I want to get some sony earbud noise-cancelling headphones, but $200 is a lot to throw away if they don't work well.

In that case I really doubt you'd fit them in there. At least not in any pratical way.

I think Im going to struggle to remove the wire from the band (that runs to the ohter speaker). Might have to get some buds like the Koss ones. Hope the CD Store sells them...I doubt it though .
