Motorway Patrol - Do they know how stupid it makes them look?

In the same programme they show a cop stopping a camper van at night on the motorway, after complaints of it travelling at 20 kmh.
The cop notes that the van has an obscured number plate.
The van fails to respond to the flashing lights and changes lanes without indicating.
Then finally stops dead in the lane.
Cop uses the PA to tell the driver to pull over, but he gets out and starts abusing the cop.
When the cop gets the silly old prick to move the van onto the shoulder the old fart gets really agressive.

For all this he gets a warning

Later they show a young woman, very polite and appologetic, she gets a ticket for running out of gas on the motorway in broad daylight.

Attack must be the best form of defense, after all.

Maybe the TV cameras make some of the coppers think go get em thoughts, Hell, I would hate to have a TV crew watching my every move while I am at work. (note I didn't say doing work!)

Big ups to the Cops that think things through, and use sound Judgement. That garners respect.

The other power trippers; need I put into words the distaste?

Motorway Patrol is mostly a PR excersize. That's all I have to say.

Had a mate (bike cop) who did the first or second season of one of those shows. He said it definately made the work a bit harder, didn't go back in when the next season came around.
That dude has some stories man!!

As far as the PR goes, Respect is gained by fear, see the How to avoid an Asswhoopin thread...
Bring back 6 foot burly cops that know how to kick their local kids asses, and by the time the cheeky shits of today grow up, policeman might be a respectable title again!

Personally I'd rather not be close enough to yell at them... but each to their own.

It's interesting to see how some people get treated vs others. I'd bet if it was a sacked out Integra with an 18yo male being a dumbass (holding up traffic, unsafe lane change, stopping in the middle of the friggin mway, obscured numberplate and then giving the cop lip) instead of a cranky old man in a piece of shite van - there'd be more than a warning handed out.

But I fully agree with that chick getting a ticket for running out of gas on the bridge. I know she prob didn't do it deliberately, but still a price must be paid for stupidity. And there should be an additional fine added for the paint job.

And that pissed monkey doing 140k WITHOUT noticing a bloody patrol car behind him... He got a pretty cheap let off I thought.

It amazed me that the guy who ran up the rear of that car got a small fine - I bet the woman who ran out of petrol probably didn't get off so lightly. I was pleased that she didn't get off with just a warning though, it was pretty stupid to run out of petrol on the bridge, it's not like she had a breakdown or something. The paint job was pretty sad too!

The cop who attended that accident (not the one called Fish) was a dork - he couldn't keep his head still and the 'fame' was obviously affecting his ability to do the job, what a moron!

At least all the other cops came across as pleasant, polite people, he would have been more at home on Shortland Street!

As for the dickhead in the van, people like that shouldn't be allowed to drive. Okay, I don't think he was doing the alleged 20kph the other motorist complained about, but what an aggressive idiot. He should have been charged with something, surely there must be a charge for "driving under the influence of your own importance"?!!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

    Haha, nicely put.

I could sit here and have a massive bitch about cops this / revenue that and everyone would jump in with their 2c on what a bunch of cunts they are.
Or I could also mention my 2 little friendly warnings lately about my front wheels lack of contact with the ground and get a lesser response from everyone.

It confirms the theory that "If you gotta fine, you probably deserved it"
    Because I can...
