Taupo Race Track - The Final Story (for now)

Hey guys I have had a bit of a chinwag with the Chief Executive & Marketing Manager of MIT Developments, -- the company that owns Taupo Race Track. I wanted to sort out Trackday 3 and 4 once and for all.
We got yakking about the track and heres some info for anybody interested in renting the track or tracks:

1 The track designation has changed to meet FIM requirements. Track One is now the full international curcuit. Track Two is the new track - NOT including the old track and Track Three is the original Taupo track we know and love.

2 To hire the track/s for a day will cost approx $4000 + gst for Track One during weekdays, & approx $6000 +gst on weekends, $3000 + gst for Track Two during weekdays, $4500 inc gst on weekends, & Track Three is $1000 + gst during weekdays, approx $1500 + gst on weekends.

It is possible to do a shared track arrangement as I saw happen today with 20 minute sessions being controlled by them and you are sharing with one or two groups. Also, they are at the moment dividing the day into quarters so you can book two hours of track time - they are however soon going to change that one third day sessions.

Pricing for this is still being discussed but will be slightly more expensive than a full days track hire on a percentage basis. So for example if a full day was $1000 a third day would probably be $400.

3 These guys are taking the dust and debris on the track very seriously. What they have done is used a brand new product which is a spray-on green dyed cardboard product which literally forms a shell over the dust but in the cardboard are thousands of grass seeds which provided there is enough moisture have a chance to grow without being blown away. I have seen this product in action just today and all around the track there is grass growing. Net result: Clean Track!!
By the end of this year there is going to be a garage complex similar to what is at Manfield, with 34 garages in it, and one thing that was mentioned was one or two garages being left available for track users rather than permanent users so it will give us a scrutineering bay plus a dry place if it is raining. They are building a restaurant and museum as well as the substantial motor sport base industrial park. They are also looking at providing catering facilities for people like us.

These guys have just received confirmation that provided they meet certain criteria they WILL be running the 2007 A1 GP and there is a chance we may get a round of Moto GP. The track is - quite frankly - stunning and with some other improvements they are proposing for the future will be as good as any track in Australia. It is the right width to meet all FIM standards although Pukekohe is wide enough but does not have the fantastic run-off areas that this track does.

I'm bloody excited about this!! - Just Quietly - About time NZ Motor Sport came out of the Dark Ages. These could just be the guys to do it.

Excellent. Good to hear they're going full tilt at it. About time someone did.

two and three can run diff groups simultaneously?

If you hire the full circuit can you break it in to the two smaller tracks in order to say run training on one and circulate for time on the other?!? Kinda thinking for future track days rider training events, have lines and stuff on the new one and have turtorial out on the old track for noobs/stunting etc

for some imagry---2/ New on right loop, 3/old left loop, 1 big loop

speedie--we are on the track we were always going to be on TRACK 2 new track.
trev--The car/spectator thing is well in hand -because of the drag strip safety issues there is a new fence along the edge of the road.as well as a 2.4m fence alongside the dragstrip )on the bank) like the stuff at western springs Crowd control for an event such as A1 or even a big drag meet is important.

At what i heard Honda Riders Club hit the nail on the head, by running 4 groups, 2 on 1 cricut 2 on the other, then swapped over, then later in the day opened full cricut up and ran 2 larger groups, nice format.

Are you sure the prices are plus GST? Just check with Grumpy, he told me they include it.

Hmmm.... after the problems we have encountered with running the stunt skills at Meremere this looks may be a good option for the second one.

so just to confirm (im a little lost, and a tad stupid too), track one is the whole place as one race track, with the drag strip as a straight?

track two is just the new part?

and track three is the orginal track setup that we used at the second track day?

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

I never say never, but I'll be VERY surprised if we get a MotoGP on that track. And as good as Phillip Island or Eastern Creek... you have to be kidding
