    BuFfY's first accident

Well today something disasterous happened... I was hit by a car!

Driving to uni this morning in this lovely weather we are having at the moment I was takin' it a bit easier than normal... as ya do.
8am this morning going down Gillies Ave from the north.... got through the first set of lights all good... second set had to wait for people who were turning and then missed the set which was fine cause we were half an hour early so weren't in a rush at all...
Slowly excellerating through the set of lights, I see the traffic is fully backed up on the other side of the road (poor them I think) Then I see this Red BMW sitting horizontal in the lane going the opposite direction trying to get into my lane... surely he could see me! NOPE! even though there was noone in front of me seen, as the two cars in front of me at the lights were turning, this guy decided it would be a good idea to drive straight into me!
My catlike reflexes came into action.... unfortunatley cats aren't morning creatures so I didn't get to move out of the way fully. SMASH!! right into the front of my drivers side... so I pulled over to have a look at the damage... OH MY GOD!
Going about 45 maybe almost 50 and him... well maybe 20k... but the damage is so upsetting...
Anyway I got his details and rang my mum and told her what happened and we are going to sort it out tonight

Fully his fault right? I mean he was coming out of a give way and just drove straight into me... in my lane!
First thing I thought was jesus I need a cup of tea! (Just got home from uni and now have one )

I have been seriously looking into getting my learners for a bike... hence being on the site... but now I am thinking holy crap what if I get hit on a bike? Does anyone else feel like this or did they feel like this?? I always felt safe in my gorgous little car (Lucy) cause she could protect me but on a bike if I got hit... well I would get hit!
Guess I need to grow some balls huh...
I'm gonna make it so PC

    Cool

Glad to hear that you are ok.........

"lucy" can be repaired... or replaced..
after the other drivers insurance pays out.

You can get hit crossing the road...

LIFE IS A RISK... we all take risks every moment of the day/night.

So go and take a risk and buy a bike...

Funny thing is that if you were on a bike you may have avoided the accident:

    A) after a bit of time on a bike you expect some clown to do something like that and you almost develop a 6th sense for when they are going to do it. (You would have been subconsciously prepared for it)..
    B) bikes fit into smaller gaps so you can drive around hazards that you wouldn't be able to avoid in cars.

Sure, if you get hit it probably will hurt you more than if you were in a car but not always.

Don't let one idiot put you off. If you're a good and careful rider what you do on the road can over-ride what the idiots do.

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Thanks so much guys... On my way down now to put in an accident claim form... the guy rang my mums partner and said that he was stationary.. but the fact he was in my lane still doesn't help his story! I am pretty sure that he knows it is his fault... and he said that his wife was a doctor so I guess they have a bit of money
So I am off to show my fantastic drawing skills Wish me luck!!

    This is completely right

Get Lucy repaired, on the other guys insurance of course, then get a bike

BMW drivers are w*nkers! I had one drive into the side of my old car and start swearing at me til I got out of the car and started advancing on him! Got back in his car and called the cops - told them I was trying to assault him! Laughed when the cop who turned up was a mate.

Good you're ok though - accidents happen.

why don't you try posting this particular thread on a car forum or in Pointless Drivel.

Cars crash in Auckland City every 2.56848 seconds, who gives a fuck, as long as no bikes are involved.

For what it's worth, I've never been hit by a car in far too many years riding.
