Whats happens to deleted posts after deleting them?

Sometimes we post something, change our minds and delete that post
I've noticed there is an option to add a reason for deletion, which makes me wonder about the following few questions:

What happens to a deleted post after it's been deleted?
How long would it be stored for or is deletion automatic?
Does a mod need to activate the final deletion?
    Etc?

    Just wondering

    P.S. I don't need to recover a deleted post
90% of the time spent writing this post was spent thinking of something witty to say. It may have been wasted.

It gets stored at the end of the rainbow for a while

No no, they go to the Secret deleted post graveyard - just down the road and round the corner from the Elephant one....
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

Actually they go into a special file for SpankMe and once a year (rumoured to be Apr 1st) he posts them up in a single thread for our general amusement
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

If you deleted a post by mistake, you can ask a admin or mod to undelete it.

Well, that answers some of my original questions.

All deleted posts are "soft" deletions, so the mods and admins can still view what has been deleted.

They can either be permanently deleted by a senior mod or admin or they can be left as a soft delete.

We usually leave things in a soft delete and dont remove them off the server.

So to answer your question, they are right where they were when you deleted them, you just cant see them.
