I can't add a lot, 'cept a big to Quickchik, Custard an' Tlrider(and anyone else involved) for setting this up, prolly the best bloody run ride I've been on.
Myself, had a pretty average day, not much sleep the night before etc.
Left westgate following Qc on the R1 through to the turnoff on old nrth, past all the farkin cyclists who thought the road was theirs....then led the way at a moderate pace onto and up 16, till MR shot past at warp 10, so latched onto him and had a bit of a blast 'till we stopped to let the others catch up, then cruised with them into wellsford, a quick break/ regroup and on to paparoa. Not a bad blast through the paparoa road (cool road too, on of my faves) putted up 1 and otaika valley road. Took turnoff duties at cemetry road for a bit 'till duc-girl got there then had a hell blast through to dragsville, thank fark there were no orificers....gas then on to lunch.
Pulled outta bayleys beach road and pulled a wheelie up the straight and got farkin cramp in both hands and had to stop and stretch 'em for a bit (couldn't let the bars go to use the brake or clutch....)the front guys had long gone so set of at a moderate pace again(with aicking paws) agin 'till guess who shot past again so hooked up with him for a bit, 'till we hit the forest, then it gets a bit tight to pass so just followed the guy in front, out the other end and aff-man passes so chased him for a bit 'till some mad bugger two up on a freight truck (busa) passed us, shot past affman and hooked onto him 'till the stop at the top of the hill. Good blast through to kaikohe following kevin, gixser and some guy on a 999, Got to kaikohe with a shot rear tyre and body, farkin wrist etc was had it....real slow painful trip home from there down mangakahia road (another of my faves) to mangatapere where we said goodby to the norfland crowd, and putted down 1 uneventfully home....
That was my day, bored yet?

Interesting, girls and boys, remember all those cyclists we passed on the Old North Rd, (5 minutes from westgate)well i happened to work with one: he mentioned he was riding along on his side of the road, when this biker came around the bend "ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD" and nearly took him out--he was NOT impressed, now this guy is not one for whinging" He is a biker himself--
the reason why i put it here , is just to remind people that there are other people on the roads --

The cyclist I passed heading along Wainui Road were complete arseholes using the entire left lane and weaving over the road. Eventually I was forced toa 30kmp/h crawl or cruise along straights on the wrong side of the road.

No excuses for the fella who went on the wrong side of the road oncoming to the cyclist though.

Positive for the day - my horn works.

    .
I had a couple of cars drive straight at me while overtaking the big group of cyclists. They were taking up the entire lane.

In saying that i'm not overly keen on an early grave, as not many are, some, but not many, i wont make a 50/50 pass on a bend if it means keeping up with the guy in front, not worth it, and people who do all the crazy passing, using both lanes of the road and shit i dont wanna ride with, they're only lucky if they are in front of you at the next stop, hate plonkers who go bragging about who they owned such and such when it was because such and such thought better about a head on with a car full of kids instead of chancing it. Or becasue such and such doesn't see the point in full noise in a straight line (waste of gas and tyres)a big bike is fkn hard to steer at high speed, leave it for the twisty's, very rarely do i hit above 200kph, no point, the mess is just bigger. When me and the faster guys go for a blast we keep it to 160-180kph on the straight bits then attack the twistys full on, it keeps the group closer together and this way sometimes helps other riders improve with the fast guys always in sight. Plus it gives an easier chance to pass the guy in front that maybe slightly holding you up in the twisty section, once you get a faster group it's just to hard/dangerous to put a pass on, any muppet can nail a 1000cc in a straight line and make it hard to pass and slow you up in the twisty's, which gets frustrating and someone trys something dumb and well what happens from there is anyones guess.
    I second that...

Sounds like a wicked ride!!! Wish Chloe and I could have made it... Ah well the next one

First of all, A huge thanks to all the organisers!! Quickchick, Custard, TLrider and co. I had an awesome time out. I take my hat off to you for how well you all organised it all. 64 bikes with only minor incidents.. Wow, that is mighty impressive.

Ok... Let me explain a few things to put things into perspective.

This is what I normally do on a KB ride.

    * Watch people ride and analyse their riding when I come up behind them.
    * Rate them in my own mind. That is how I know how good someone is.
    * If they rate high, I'll stick behind for a while to see what he/she has got.
    * Then if I am quicker, I'll make a pass.
    * Then the only use I have for my mirrors is when I adjust my speed on the straights to make sure the rider isn't left behind so that they have an oppertunity to follow me for a bit as well. Hence, I was backing off in the straight sections when ever I was pulling away from the corners at times (Leading all the time gets f'ing boring!)
    * Once I complete these steps and have my fun, I carry on to the next rider.

Therefore, I tried to always start from the back of the fast group. To get to know everyone as a rider. The only downside to this was that I didn't get to spend that much time with the group leaders.

As for the guy on the Falco owning me... Gixer told me about him at the last big stop, and since I hadn't come across him before, I was excited to see what he had. When I finally got the chance, I followed him for a bit. Fuckin fast but... He was using both lanes quite heavily... Which I am not big on... Not for road pace anyway. Only if I was to step up to a race pace, I'd start using both lanes, but I don't do that on open roads... (Hence it doesn't matter to me if I know the roads or I don't). I was throughly dissapointed when he stopped at the pub, before I got the chance to continue the rest of my usual routine and make the pass etc. etc. I was soo impressed with the fact that he was the quickest I had come across and that was with 2 up on a Falco FFS!!! So I turned back and stopped by the pub to say Gidday to him and compliment his riding. I am sure he'd be quicker than me, if he was 1 up on thoes roads.. I don't doubt that.. But when I was behind him that time, nither me nor my R6 were close to "full noise".

If this was a year ago, my younger self would have come up the very next weekend for a few head to head challenges to settle some scores and prove a point but these days, I have learned to let my ego go... Just in the last month I know of a couple of good ridding buddies who have been killed on bikes. I have realised exactly what happens to people like me who over induldge on speeding on public roads. Hence I don't have anything to prove anymore. I just ride within my comfort zone just to have fun and I normally try to keep the speeds below 200kmph and stick to my own side of the lane.. If I come last, sweet, if I come first all good. It's not a race, if I'm just having a bit of fun, that's all I care about.

BTW, in my eyes, top riding by

Falco dude - Fuck would love to see you go full tits when you are 1 up sometime... Top effort, you have my full respect!
    Kevin on a blue/white K3 GSXR1000 - I enjoyed our little battle!
Gixer - Good riding and awesome wheelies as always!
2much - Awesome riding and again fukin trick wheelies!
Dude on a burgundy Bandit 1200 - Awesome pace!
Yellow Ducati 999s - Good stuff!
Dude on the red Ducati - You know who you are.
TL rider - Awesome fast riding on the fast stuff.
Repsol blade 2 up - Nice pace for 2 up man.
Aff-man - Wheelies are getting better all the time!

There were other heaps of great riders out but I probably missed them or I never came across them on the ride. Congratulations to everyone (including me) for keeping the shiney side up and ruber side down. Shame about that one crash though and RIP to the rider who is no longer with us...

There were some beautiful scenery up there but as for the roads.. Yea, some of it was nice and twsity but a fukin long way to travel for that when I can just do it close to home.. There were far too many open sweeper type of corners and not enough tight stuff.. So I loved every bit of that ride but it just might be a once in a life time experience that I probably wouldn't repeat too soon. (too much money to spend on tires and fuel etc). It was my second road ride out on the R6 and I love her more and more every day! So yea, next time you fellas come down here for a ride, it'd be good to catch up.

    I fully agree 100% , you'r a wise motha fukka.

BTW None of the above is bullcrap.. I'm always 100% honest. Even if I got smoked by Justsomeguy fair and square, I'll openly admit it. But if there is something incorrect, I just feel the need to correct it. Hence the long explanation. Not that it all matters anyway so I don't know why I bothered.. LOL

    As you were..
