1987 Suzuki NZ250, 37000km

Registered, Licensed, Warranted.

Seems to have been stored in a bucket of salt by previous owner.

Bought off Trade Me for $780 about 8 months ago.

Things I've done/added since then:
New muffler ($250)
Fork seals and straightening ($300) (I didn't even know!)
Oil and filter.
Genuine Suzuki Service Manual.
New horn. (Not even sure why)
New colour-matched cable-ties to help hold the side-covers on.

Bought to do my CBTA (all done) and now time to "upgrade".

Good "learner bike", for anyone who does not want a GSXR250 or CBRRR250RRR.

i had a spare muffler for one of those in my wrecking stock, still have a taillight lens that i nearly throw in the bin everytime i pass it.

I got mine to 165kmph [indictated]...they are a piece of piss to wheelie...and a heap of fun to ride....u can scrap the foot pegs every where on them...
one of the most fun 250's I've ever rode....they make about 33hp apparently...

Yep. It's a single. Maybe even a 0.95. I can see from the gasket goo (normal application, according to the Suzuki manual) that the cylinder has been off - no way for me to know what was done or by whom.


I generally get mine to 120 (indicated) on the motorway, to keep up with the cars. I don't red-line it in every gear, so it may well do more.

Up the gorge in a head-wind it begins to struggle; but you get used to the little old ladies passing you.

It kept up well enough with many newer bikes on my CBTA courses.


[Added later:] I think it handles "OK", but I reckon it needs anew rear shock one day. I am 95 kg, and have the back tyre at the pressure for two-up riding. That seems to help. There's plenty of tread on the tyres but they are very "domestic".


I'd like at least a little bit more than I paid, as I bought it cheap knowing I'd need to replace the muffler, but obviously I can't "charge" for normal servicing.

Yep, I even have a small box of bits I bought off someone on trademe. Spare left-hand bracket for the foot peg, spare electric bits and few odds and ends.

If you were in Wellington I'd come buy your NZ250 bits.

I still search for NZ250 bits on trade me. The other day I somehow bought an old postcard off a stamp-dealer; it was a picture of an aircraft with the serial number "NZ250".

I've never wheelied mine. I need lessons.

But yes, it's plenty good for a blat to Makara beach and back. Lots of fun.

I tend to scrape my boots before the pegs.

If licensing was not so costly (damn cars bumping up ACC fees for bikes) I'd keep it for my round-town use. I'd like to do-it-up; I reckon GN250 wheels would go well on it - as would a frame powder-coating.
