Another Stagecoach bus goes up in flames

    06.04.06 3.00pm

Stagecoach suffered its Auckland fleet's fifth bus fire in eight months today.

Fire Service Senior Station officer Shaun Thornton said that at 10.30 am the bus left the Northwestern Motorway for Great North Rd, Waterview.

Soon afterwards, the driver stopped when he noticed motorists flashing lights at him. Looking in the rear mirror he could not see the back of the bus for the smoke.

Mr Thornton said the back of the bus was well ablaze when the Fire Service arrived.

The driver and two passengers were unharmed.

We may have a serial terrorist on our hands that just can't get the chemical mixture to a critical point. The funny part was "The driver and TWO passengers were unharmed.

No the funny thing is the millions of dollars being spent on special BUS roads for these overused buses

Nah it's not a terrorist - the passengers were just having a barbie!
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.

    we will remember them

    Another one bites the dust
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

that proves how much those tossers actually use their mirrors. Obviously they are there for warrant purposes only.

Maintenance is not high on the agenda. Anyone else get regular diesel spills on hilly roads in their area ?

The drivers of those thing are beyond ignorant - I know for a fact that they will drive a binding brake until the whole wheel catches fire.Probably the same with this bus,the warning signs to stop the bus because something drastic was wrong was long past, they just keep driving until the bus completely stops.

I find it amusing that Wellington's 70 odd year old rail network, built primarily along active fault lines, leaves Aucklands public transport system for dead in so many respects. And for that matter our bus drivers and taxi drivers are frendlier too. This all IMO of course.

Small is good in so many ways Finn.
Do you sometimes ever feel like a foreigner in your own town, oh sorry, city?? Auckland taxi drivers are mostly ignorant refugee types from my experience and I'm not the only one who has feared for his/her life under the wrath of an Auckland bus driver.
Wellington is small, sometimes it gives me cabin fever. But I'll never live in Auckland again, it doesn't feel like NZ to me.
