Smile 250cc Owners Ride Sunday 16th April 2006

    250cc Owners Ride

Sunday 16th April 2006 departing Shell Westgate at 10:00am

    Estimated Distance 350 – 400 kilometers
    Approximate Duration 4 – 6 hours
Group Pace Slow and Medium with Tail End Charlie
    (Slow is 70 - 100kmp/h and Medium is 100kmp/h - 130kmp/h)

Shell Westgate is on the corner of Don Buck Road and the SH16 / Hobsonville Highway round about beside Mc Donalds.

See the bottom of this page for more information on locating Westgate.

    Ride Description
This is a unique opportunity for 250cc owners to ride and socialise with each other in a comfortable environment. The emphasis is on enjoyment and every effort will be made to ensure each rider is relaxed at their comfort level and part of the group.

The route will encorporate an adventurous nature, with a variation of roads and plenty of beautiful Northland scenery.

This is not a newbie ride however newbies are welcome so long as they are confident on the road. Any type and size of motorcycle is welcome also, so long as they stick with the group pace (within reason). This is a cruisey ride, don't feel the need to race another rider or prove anything. Enjoy yourself at your own pace.

    Ride Suitability
This ride is suitable for anyone with open road confidence. We will be covering a lot of kilometers and will encounter various hazards that riders should be capable of dealing with. The general expectations are:

    • Capable of 100kmp/h (Slow)
    • Open road experience, 200km's or more is good
    • Comfortable riding for at least an hour at a time
    • Courtesy for other road users

These are simple expectations and most should be capable of meeting them. However if anyone is dangerous or shows a lack of courtesy for other road users they will be told to fuck off.

    Weather Dependant
Although the threat of an odd shower will not cancel the ride, if there is a forecast and likelyhood of rain on the day it will be postponed.

    The Route
We will take the classic Old North Rd, Peak Rd and then State Highway 16 until Wellsford. From there we will follow the coast up to Waipu and then loop around through some lovely roads and then head back to Wellsford and back down State Highway 16.

A printed map giving rough general directions will be provided.

Each intersection will be well marked by another rider, if you are unsure wait at the inersection for the marked Tail End Charlie to catch up. The “TEC” will remain at the back of the group for the whole duration of the ride. Slower riders do not need to worry about being left behind.

    Rest and Refreshment Stops
We will make 4 stops in total over the day, approximately one every hour primarily to stretch the legs and to give people a chance to go to the toliet. One of the stops will be for lunch and will last around 30 minutes to an hour, at a guess.

    Map of Westgate
Locating Westgate can be a daunting task if you are not from Auckland. You can use http://www.wises.co.nz/ to get directions from your location.

Use "Westgate Drive" as a destination on wises.

Please make sure you register your attendance on the Calendar Event

It would be nice to have a rough estimate on how many riders we can expect turning up. Also, any questions you may have, feel free to PM me or post here.

On another note, there will be no mean feed as the date has been brought forward. We will have to save the "mean feed" for the southern ride (part 2, according to Ducky )

You'd be most welcome and I don't think you'd have any problem keeping up on this ride. You'll gain plenty of open road experience too as we'll be traversing all sorts of different roads.

It'd be cool to see you there

Hey mate, just come along, that is what these sort of rides are for! - Get some experience. I'm coming along just for the ride, if I get my bike back in time. I can remember you on the newbies ride, will be good to see you again.
