I am with you almost all of the way here Sarge.
Ixion - I think you are damned if you do and damned if you don't close a thread like the original one.
1. There is clearly a topic or two, just ripe for a good KB-style discussion here. Yes, why not kick off a new thread like maybe "1 in 5 NZ'ders Has A Mental Illness - Bullshit or Not?". I am sure others have some good suggestions.
2. The OP did not seem to realise what she was stepping into here and as it was a fairly raw and recent issue for her, it was probably the kindest thing to let the original discussion drop.
But of course that does not mean there is not a lot to discuss in this area for those of us who enjoy a bit of off-topic ranting. If you start another general thread and I'll be in for a post or two!

Thread starter Shazzy posted twice i think from memory?, it was everyone else having a go at the pre-poster or whoever....point is, this is what posting and threads are all about, say what you want right?...i do, within reason, dont set out to make people cry, i will certainly get into some on here cos they deserve it but all in jest. Marty was the thread starter here and has posted 3 times at last count 3/50.......so it becomes everyone's thread, freedom of speech, guess Shazzy should have eaten those first words, but she had the right to say what she feels....... i may have missed the whole point i think not.....![]()

ok - if we are to apportion blame here, let's put it SQUARELY where it belongs ---------- on the ADVERTISING COMPANIES who portray a totally unatainable standard of female pulchitrude for most normal women/girls
our 'herd instinct' and desire to conform do the rest![]()
when i see a magazine cover featuring a retouched pic of a 12 year old in full make-up it don't bother me
if i were in my twenties, thirties, forties - mebbe it would make me feel inadequate --- and THAT IS WHAT IT IS DESIGNED TO DO
i am lucky, i guess
so is my daughter - because i have encouraged in her a feeling of self-worth that has nothing to do with fashionable appearance
but we are NOT mainstream
advertising - the new satan

" Life is not a rehearsal, it's as happy or miserable as you want to make it"
It does piss me off somewhat when people mock these 'disorders' as something that can just be corrected by a snap of common sense and as if telling them to 'harden' up instantly solves the problem.
To the people involved they are much more than that and often stem from deeper pych problems or imbalances, when you just dismiss them and ridicule them it doesn't exactly help things. I'm quite sure they have heard the same lines from many different people in the past.
My Brother killed himself a couple of years ago as a result of a mental disorder, kinda similar to this. He was absolutely brilliant but as it turned out totally troubled. I don't think we can understand or even remotely comprehend what people with these mental problems go through and nor should we judge them on it, unless we have a clue what they are facing.
A bit of understanding goes along way and personally I'm glad the moderators take that stance.
Despite what you may think of ones opinion it is inappropriate for you to judge that person based on that - as others on this forum have done.Originally Posted by Indoo

They wont give me a gun license but the Army accepted me so go figure.
Enough of the political correctness shit too. Get off your high horses and enter the real world where people suffer, bleed and die every second of the day.
I could write a fucken story about those numb skull social welfare case workers. I feel sorry for anyone with a mental dissability who relys on them for support. Shape up, deal with it and move on or blow your brains out.
Sorry for the lack of senstivity, but 90% of organisations and people there who are suppose to help just foster the deseases.
I'm allowed an opinion. I'll introduce you to my shrink I had if you're going to tell me I'm an arsehole with no "understanding".
My 2 cents.
Nah mate I'm not singing slogans or anything like that....
All I know is a few days prior I was chatting to my brother as per normal, nothing was out of the ordinary and we had a good talk.
Next thing that i can remember, my parents are banging on my window at
6 am in the morning and I found out he hung himself.
I'm not being pc at all, thats what happened to me and thats all I can say. If you want to consider mental disorders and probs to be a joke than thats up to you.
Thats a couple of times we have agreed Lou in a matter of days, snap out of it please.Originally Posted by Lou Girardin

Sorry, actually made the mistake of quoting you when everything I said was directed at a few other people who have replied to this thread. Consider it lazyness and my apology for any misconception.Originally Posted by Indoo
