Locking off threads

Courtesy lads, courtesy. And sensitivity. Cops we may assume are fairly tough buggers, not too emotionally fragile.

But, if a cop asked for posting to stop in a thread that said cop had started, cos the slagging was getting too much to deal with, I'd lock it. Assuming that people didn't have the decency to respect the wishes of the thread starter, and affected person.

Maybe everyone isn't a rough tough biker. Bikings none the worse for having a few gentler and more sensitive types involved. Just means having a bit of consideration for other peoples feelings , eh?

1. There is clearly a topic or two, just ripe for a good KB-style discussion here. Yes, why not kick off a new thread like maybe "1 in 5 NZ'ders Has A Mental Illness - Bullshit or Not?". I am sure others have some good suggestions.

2. The OP did not seem to realise what she was stepping into here and as it was a fairly raw and recent issue for her, it was probably the kindest thing to let the original discussion drop.

But of course that does not mean there is not a lot to discuss in this area for those of us who enjoy a bit of off-topic ranting. If you start another general thread and I'll be in for a post or two!

Thread starter Shazzy posted twice i think from memory?, it was everyone else having a go at the pre-poster or whoever....point is, this is what posting and threads are all about, say what you want right?...i do, within reason, dont set out to make people cry, i will certainly get into some on here cos they deserve it but all in jest. Marty was the thread starter here and has posted 3 times at last count 3/50.......so it becomes everyone's thread, freedom of speech, guess Shazzy should have eaten those first words, but she had the right to say what she feels....... i may have missed the whole point i think not.....

Wonder if someone posted about their fight with cancer or heart disease they'd get the same response?

After all the fitness nazis keep telling me that heart disease and high blood pressure are caused by a bad life style.

Perhaps not. I don't know much about eating disorders , or anything of that nature. Only thing I've ever been addicted to is biking. Which is why I kept quiet in the original thread, being as how I had nothign to contribute............

Too true - the ads are so easily accepted by teenagers.

Me? I buy it/wear it/ride it because I WANT to - not because some ad tells me I'll be cooler, that I NEED it or whatever.

It does piss me off somewhat when people mock these 'disorders' as something that can just be corrected by a snap of common sense and as if telling them to 'harden' up instantly solves the problem.

To the people involved they are much more than that and often stem from deeper pych problems or imbalances, when you just dismiss them and ridicule them it doesn't exactly help things. I'm quite sure they have heard the same lines from many different people in the past.

My Brother killed himself a couple of years ago as a result of a mental disorder, kinda similar to this. He was absolutely brilliant but as it turned out totally troubled. I don't think we can understand or even remotely comprehend what people with these mental problems go through and nor should we judge them on it, unless we have a clue what they are facing.

A bit of understanding goes along way and personally I'm glad the moderators take that stance.

Despite what you may think of ones opinion it is inappropriate for you to judge that person based on that - as others on this forum have done.

Inlight of the fact I stirred up a few people in the eating disorder thread, would you of believed that I have experienced mental disabilities? Probably not and that is where you become your own worst enemy.

On the other hand, some posters turn totally feral when cops post. Their reply's have nothing to do with the thread, they're just an excuse to abuse cops.
While the Police as an entity are not my best friends, some of the crap being posted here just pisses me off.
Those people should save their venom for when they're face to face with a cop. But I think they'd then be very polite and 'nice'.
