    New Plymouth - Wanganui 22/4/06

Weather looks good for this weekend at this stage, so have organized to meet with 'betti' to buy a battery from him for the GPZ500.

Will be off on a slow (110km/h) jount down there for lunch, then maybe round the mountain on the way home. Anyone want to join me? Be good to have some backup incase the old girl (87 vintage) decides to have a rest half way down.

    Racey.

    Great day

Meet up with 'Demonwolf' and 'Me4me2' on a great looking day.
A Gpz500s, 400 Eliminator, and a TL1000 seemed like an interesting mix for a days riding together.
We took it easy on the way down to allow time to settle into a group riding style. The only thing interesting to note was one cage driver that wanted to 'try it on' with us. After holding us up for a short distance, he decided to out drag us down a straight bit. As we were now up to 120km/h, and being the responsible group leader that I am , I decided to let him go and enjoy his moment. I was pleased however to hear the roar of a big V twin blasting past me to show this cager his rightful place in the food chain. Moments later he got stuck behind a truck and 'Me4me2' and I ambled past and were on our way.
Nice to meet up with 'Betti' in Wanga, after a bit of ticky touring around the place looking for bike shops and the café. Had a lovely Cappuccino, but couldn't find the good old Pie and chips anywhere on the extensive menu. That GSX of yours is a pleasure to behold.
Filled up with fuel in Wanga for the trip home. The Gpz was using 4.6L/100km, or 21.7 Km/L. Not bad for the amount of fun I was having. I was pleased with the bikes account for it's self on this first long trip I had done on it. Cruising at 120km/h puts the bikes twin cylinder motor at 6000 rpm, right in the middle of it's meat of Torque/Power. Top gear roll ons is all it needs to pass cars, (Or TL1000's when there not looking).
Heading home the pace was upped a little. 'Me4me2's' 400 did a sterling job at holding it's own, though knew it had had a workout by all accounts. The Opanaki side of the Mountain was quite windy as is often the case, Mt Taranaki with it's 'Hoodie' on, showing signs of Sundays rain coming. Riding in the wind brings a new dimension to a ride. While not something you want to battle with the whole way, being blown sideways as you exit a cutting keeps things interesting. It wasn't that bad this day, and the Gpz sat well on the road.
Three quite different bikes, but I think it's fair to say, we all enjoyed what biking is all about.
    Catch you next time Guys.
    Racey.
