We have a pack of 15 bikes going from Wanganui this year......

Re ferry bookings, I've rung the interislander service desk and have persuaded them to free up car spaces for the last 2 years for our bikes, for years we travelled in split up groups, but now they oblidgue and free up the cars for us......

We're on the Thu 830am ferry, most are booked on the return Mon 115pm.......some prefer the later 6pm crossing. Buit yes we are all booked.....thing is they can't probably free up car space now if all the car spaces are gone too........

You'd have to leave wanga quite early to make the 830. I used to live in Tawa many a year ago and the traffic was shit from real early heading into WN.

As in the thread above, don't go silly and hope any cops are relaxedabout the advantages of being on a bike in heavy traffic.........

Thought I had everyting sussed for the trip.

I had to go to work early and then come home again. The trip in was OK, but did it piss down this morning on my way home or what! Yes and my boots filled up. Jandals would have been about the same.

    New boots required!

Yeah I had some for my off road boots, but couldn't find it last time I looked. Worked OK, but had to reapply regularly onto the stiching to keep them waterproof.

I was looking for a good (bad??) excuse to get some new boots.

    new boots

get some new boots, many many years of riding from puhoi to auckland, and i have had my fair share of wet boots. snowseal is good but found after about 20 minutes the rain would find it's way through.
i used to heat my boots up in the oven to help the wax really get into it.
then i just upgraded to waterproof boots and they are wicked. never had that leaky boot problem again.
waterproof boots were good in winter. very warm and dry. but come summer time wow they got hot. they don't breathe.
so you almost need a summer and winter boots, just like gloves.

the old shopping bags (plastic) were great in the early days. although felt like a complete knob at times. espically with white new world bags.

    But hey they worked !

Rain will always find a way in if your gloves/boots and wet weather gear aren't up to scratch.

Get a decent pair of wet weather boots and your sussed for many years to come dude!.
