    A few days to wait

Not long now, I am realy looking forward to the trip this year (well realy every year I have), but esp with a new bike this year, and I realy enjoy the roads down there.
Leaving Rangiora about 10ish on Friday for Oamaru, the Sat morn to the site, a one day trip home on the Sunday. I kinda hope that the weather is both ways, it is nice if it is mild and kinda like autum, and then again, let the rain/snow fall, either way whatever is thrown at ya adds to the experience.

Hope everyone has a great time, and makes it there and back unscathed, both bike and body.

    C-ya there.

I can do that... just name the time and a place and I'll be there. No getting out of bed earlier than 6am though.

Thompson's track is a great ride. Just remember 17 gates to open and close.

Bwah think SD was meaning Thompson's track between Rakaia & Mayfield & it's another classic Mid Canterbury road but a patchwork of ice during winter

Yep that was the one I meant - and where are you NOT going to find patches of ice during winter?

Although this weekend is probably not going to have an ice problem from what the forecast indicates.

Oh, I hadn't heard that section of road reffered to as Thompson's Track before. In Central Otago Thompson's Track is the dirt road from Tarras to Omakau over the Dunstan Range, and hits the main road only 20 minutes from the Rally site. Its a very scenic trip, icy as hell during winter, and climbs to 4200' above sea level.

Tis true, but T/T is a crap piece of road to start with and the shelterbelts & hedges along it & it's direction means once said spots get iced they stay iced all day (I'm a local so me knows ) it's enough to catch cars on the odd occasion.

Well I,m just surfin killing time waiting for family to wake up so I can do last minute stuff on my bike without waking them up. Meeting three other mates at Drury Autobaun at 10 and were off to the Monkey, probably the first bunch to leave from Auckland. So maybe might see some of you as we get closer sort of be like the migration in "Ice Age". Just like a big bunch of squirrels heading off to get a badge at one of the colder places. Pretty dumb really. At least its bit of a challenge, lots of workmates think its too difficult it might rain or there might be ice or what if my bike breaks down . Like I tell them heck if I didnt go it might rain here and I wouldn't be able to mow the lawns anyway. Well thats pretty profound stuff from me see ya there.
