    Downhill GP

    It's raining, I'm bored, and I got to thinking. Having had a go at the last Red Bull Trolley GP and the Flugtag (birdman) competitions, I thought it'd be a good idea to get going early this time for the next Trolley GP - probably in Feb next year.
    Next year?!? WTF?!? I hear you say. Well I reckon a little planning and forethought goes a long way... Anyone thinking about entering this? These comps are a hell of a lot of fun - not just in competing in them, but building the craft that will be piloted down the hill.

    The rules are fairly straight forward;
    1) The vehicle must have more than 2 wheels.
    2) The vehicle must not weigh more than 80kgs (time penalty acrued for every 5kg over)
    3) The vehicle mustnot be propelled by anything other than gravity down the course ie. no pedal power, engines, rubber bands etc.

    Anyone have any thoughts about this? A couple of pics from last year's event (The Ford won it) Our entry was the "Slipper" - Team Fossil Fuel (Old folks)

    Just thought I'd put it out there...

    Face first!! Yehaa... that'd be a rush. I think if you go into it with the thought of just taking part then you don't get too hung up on whoever wins it for whatever reason. I mean the Porsche team it's rumoured spent something like $16k on theirs (including written off man hours during work time) and the Ford guys got $5k sponsorship for theirs - including driving up there from Welly the whole thing cost us $100 for materials and $300 for wheels and tyres (at cost).
    I thought about doing a "Alien" theme and going face first in a Alien head )the black one).....

    i sponsored my team.... the cost of trans-sport to akl... total cost of build... $120ish.. + many man hrs....:spudflip:

    there was talk about the "big" teams when we were there also... but they ALL crashed and burned... the last corner got most of them.. sure they were fast... but they also broke easily...

    the one's that won it ( we had the same time!!) diserved it!! they were fast and entertain us all day!!
    would have liked to come second or third... .. but we had so much fun... like the time i went to refill my water pistol from our water supplies........ only to be told... " hey andy... did you use the ""water"" from the lemonade bottle?".... ummm yes ...... well that one was really lemonade.......... yes i shot cops and the crowd with lemonade.. on a HOT sticky ( ) day.......

    Ours was the 'Slipper'. The other photos I've got are too big (and I don't know how to resize them)
    My favourite was the Fire Engine. 6m long with it's own tandem trailer and extendable hydraulic ladder (that they removed for the race)

    been thinking a bit about this... might have to get my head around to doing some 3D designs of what i have in mind. Could be quite fun!
