Well folks...the route for the run is about 200 km's. It will be a great day out so get yourselves along to the clubrooms before 11am to register. Prizegiving and piss-up should be a hoot too!

Poker run is still on rain, hail or shine! Going by the Metservice satelite pic we might get all three. So anyone put off the Whangamata beach hop due to the flooding can come along. My guess is it will fine up later today and we might just get a few showers tomorrow.

The Poker Run went well. Started out mostly fine but a little overcast. About 50 bikes all up. I thought I'd start off last to make it an interesting ride but caught up to the front within 20km. So I stopped for a ciggy & let the main bunch carry on a bit. There was diesel all over the Rotoma's so that slowed me down a bit, until I got to Edgecumbe.

Departed the Edgecumbe pub with the rumble of all the Hogs and all the residents came out for a nosey. Was cool to wave to all the little kids. Between Edgecumbe and Galatea it pissed down but I managed to get to the front of the ride again. No point in stopping in the rain so I tucked in behind the leaders and cruised. Felt the first cold drops of rain penetrate my jacket and dribble down my armpit. Then the crotch! Before I knew it my feet were wet too. The rain cleared coming into Galatea and there was a nice patch of blue sky over the district. The Galatea Riders put on an awesome feed Great bunch of people!!

Departed Galatea heading towards Reporoa and it was decided that a few of us would take Goudes Rd instead of the main road. Well I'd never ridden this route before so I was trying to keep up with a Busa, Ducati, Buel and a CBR1000. Was flying along the forestry road in the rain with limited visibility, doing about 160ish when the seal turned to gravel "Holy Fucking Hell!" I said to myself. Avoided all the potholes and eased off a bit then started laughing my arse off. Makes one feel great to be alive after a little scare like that.

Got to the Woolshed before the rest of the bunch and had a laugh with the other's about the gravel. Had a coulpa drinks and waited around for the prizegiving and Band to start. Rain set in and I rode home alone in the dark.

Was a great ride despite the rain and everyone enjoyed it. No bins but a SV650/1000 broke down. A clever mechanically minded person managed to get it going again so it was only on the trailer for part of one leg. Another guy on a ZXR400 ran out of gas on the last leg. Being a BAB he forgot about reserve:spudwhat: but the back-up vehicle soon sorted him out.

Thanks to SCMCC and Galatea Riders for an awesome day/night

Hey 9i No ape hangers, just the stretchy bits on the shoulders lets the water in. Bladder control aint a prob! Dont you find the crotch is usually the first part to get wet?

If I had to do it again I wouldn't change a thing. I think I have enough experience on gravel to handle most situations. It was a good rush though I used to live up a windy gravel road and had a steep gravel driveway so a straight, flat bit of road wasnt too bad.

I think it could have been Laggcity on the SV.
