they say your only as old as you feel and she feels around 20 esh,I must be young I can't remeber yesterday, would not take too much out of what the younger are saying they are brought up in a time were you can say anything (freedome of speach ) and not get a rap over the hands for it. still sometimes what you say can come back and bite you in the bum

I guess what I was getting at was....

The internet, this site and others have changed the world. I belong to a global Moto Guzzi community of thousand that I can plug into for any little issue and get millions of kilometers of advice. I can order parts from the middle of the USA and they arrive at Kapait 3 days later. I was having a little wiring issue with my 1970 TR6C, the diagrams are not in the manuals, its a pretty rare model, and a week later, a set of diagrams turn up at my place from the UK via the Triumph Twins Yahoo group.

Suddenly owning a funny old bike with no local dealer becomes a pleasure and a hell of a lot easier. How long would it have taken me to figure our a simple wiring mod (30c) would fix my intermittent 'non start' problem with out this?

The internet... Wonderful thing.

Now, all motorcyclists can talk to each other and there is a chance for all of us to unify, fight for rights etc etc. Things beyond my imagining a mere 10 years ago and not what I imagined the very first time I sat down in front of a terminal for the first time in the 80's..

And yet.... We can't help ourselves can we.

We have a need to take this wonder and use it to belittle, to hurt and to make ourselves large in our own eyes. At last we can posture and puff without the posibility of physical hurt. The weak of heart can become tigers in cyberspace and at last, say what they want.. Or can we?

Manners and the rule of law protect the weak and our forefathers vision was a society that was fair to all. What I believe in is this, self restraint, good manners and fair play will make us stronger. Back biting and anger will destroy us all.

Lets not let the bad people win. The internet should not be allowed to undo a 1000 years of progress. We are better than that!! So lets sharpen up our act and lets all try to contribute more and suck up less...

You're a legend Paul. That's it isn't it? When we pull together we are strong, when we are divided and self centred we are weak and easily undone. Times they are a changing.

I was telling my kids the other day about the huge handfuls of lollies yyou could get for 20 cents! It was said in another thread ("born before 1980"?) - We used to ride where we liked on our bikes and get home at dark after being out the whole day - no-one was too upset. We dared each to do stupid things got cut, burnt, grazed and bruised. We were fit andf strong (generally - or at least we thought we were) Hell we were the kings (and queens) of the world!
Ban Playstations and Xboxes, make playtime compulsory, and get kids off their arses!

Ohh yeah... and then it was banned in schools, we still had secret games at lunch time but soon got bustered... reckon that was the start of the countrys 'do gooders' taking all the fun away, just in case we hert ourselves... bloody cotton wool.

Dick Barton, Special Agent. 5.45 til 6pm five nights a week. No, not on tv. that was still experimental in 1944. ITMA. Much Binding in the Marsh. Top comedy radio programs in the war years. Didn't see a tv until the early 1950s and that was in the window of a local furniture shop. Spent a lot of cold nights eating fish and chips and wishing they'd turn the sound up. After a few weeks they turned it off when the shop closed. Probably fed up of cleaning the grease off the windows.
Made a lot of good mates through bikes in the fifties. Still keep in touch and a few are still riding. In those days if you had a problem with somebody you sorted it face to face and it was forgotten the day after, no hiding behind nom de plumes and posting agressive messages on public forums. The computer is a useful tool when used wisely but after reading some of the stuff posted over the last few days I'm beginning to wish it could be uninvented or at least come with a handbook on common sense and manners.


PS Still reckon 'Quatermass' was one of the best science fiction series ever, even if it was in black and white.
