Just make something up. For instance you could be master at arms for the local bike gang.Originally Posted by spudchucka

Go on, mate, it'd be nice to know the details. What do you do on a day-to-day basis, exactly? Which division or area are you in? Have you ever pulled any of us over and done your best to hold back a giggle?Originally Posted by spudchucka

man.. I saw DBA's and thought i might not be the only sound geek on here! I'm an Acoustic engineer (no, I don't do sound work for bands). Consulting advice (you think tradesmen charge lots?) for developers generally on what they should/have to do to avoid acoustic problems in their crappy buildings. So if you live in an apartment and you can hear the neighbours, it'll be because the developer didn't pay attention to what someone like me wrote (or it was done by one of our competitors and they cocked it up... we don't do cockups... honest!)
Happy to tell anyone what they should do if they've got problems with noisy kids upstairs (gag them)/toilets flushing/traffic noise etc etc. in their homes (just don't ask me to come look at it or I'll have to "make you pay")!
Hmmm. I haven't posted about myself here yet, have I?
I write software for a GPS navigation company, in their in-car product division. Since there's only one company doing that in NZ it shouldn't be too hard a stretch for you guys to figure out who it is.
I like it here because I get to do Proper Engineering and escape the mindless tedium of 'IT' style software development.![]()

Sorry but you might still be the only sound geek here. DBA (in IT terms) stands for DataBase Administrator. Ie, the clowns that look after/run databases.Originally Posted by Coldkiwi

As it is, full marks to you for coming clean (even if there was a notable reluctance earlier!)

and on top of that, in sympathy with, and out of respect for spud, i too have decided to come clean.
i have pulled the pin from the force after 13 and a bit years. i'm actually still employed by the police, but i'm waiting for my perf to come thru at the moment, hence i'm not working. i've decided to go back to aircraft engineering for a bit, but my long term goal is to go flying for a job. doesn't pay all that well, but it's what i want to do, and that my friends, is the most important thing of all.
and i've only written 2 tickets out to motorcyclists. one to a gang dude on a tricked $40000 v-rod at 149km/h, and one for a 197km/h effort on a GSXR1000 on swamp rd after paeroa in 2001.
Since everyone is coming clean....... My old man is in the STU and was in the MOT before the agglomeration..... that's how i know a fair bit about the police and how it works.......
