You cottoned on pretty quick and as a matter of interest I am on the wrong side of 50 so the seventies weren't THAT long ago

I made one last year, pretty cool aswell, but of course it was strictly for "research" purposes.

They are a firearm as per the Arms Act. Possession of one and shooting one off could lead to several legal problems. Mine has been dismantled. Was good fun while it lasted though, especially the foot long blue muzzle flash at night time.

i don't mind the giving of info, but now that i'm out of the loop my up to date knowledge will wane quickly. i was 10 years in GDB in the waikato, cleaning up the killing fields on SH1 @ huntly and cambridge, and on section in h-town, spent a year on HP at it's inception, saw major drops in road trauma (dec 2000 to nov 01), for the past 3 years i've been a section sgt on TAG and GDB.

so yeah - i know how a laser and stalker work........i'm sure i could find my 'moving and stationary mode radar instructor' certifcate somewhere

Never mind, next year they're going to introduce a stupidity gun that can detect unsafe driving before anything happens

19 deaths in a month due to fatal crashes is my 'record' - one that i wish i didn't have.

and the last fatal that i attended was a biker.

I hear you Marty, most are a combination of speed/stupidity/not driving to conditions, and unfortunately the only one detectable is the speed part of the combination hence it gets targetted. Speed is also a factor in 'not driving to conditions but alas that speed might still below the legal speed limit

Sadly the only fatal biker crashes around here have been solo bikes going (wait for it) too fast to make it round a bend.

yup - the biker dude was: 3am, heavy rain, over 100km/h (speedo needle imprint on back plate at 115), been at the hamilton south end drinking establishments, on a left hand corner cresting a hill, across the centreline, head-on into a car, wearing jeans, windbreaker, skatie shoes, on a CBR900RR, aged about 30yrs.

i cannot think of any fatal crash that i have attended that hasn't had speed or alcohol as an aggravating factor, so you'll excuse me if i'm a bit cynical

I am an EHO (figure that one out) and sometimes monitor noise levels from a wide range of sources, usually industry. You must do a fair bit of work for pubs and the like would'nt you ?

I used to do residential noise control also, but now that is contracted out to a security firm. While I enjoy a bit of loud music myself, I once served a notice on the local mongrel mob (with a Police escort of course).

Oh yeah, I considered doing acoustic consulting to verify vehicle noise levels, with all the hoohaa about boy racer's exhausts etc, but considering the limits are pretty low (85dBA from memory) MOST if not all aftermarket exhaust systems would fail anyway.

The most recent I had anything to do with was a quadruple fatality in which one of the cars ignited. It was an isolated area and the fire service was a long way away. Consequently this led to a very interesting experience later in the mortuary. I've never attended a fatal involving a bike, thankfully.

When I lived at Okato the local cop (sole charge, of course) finally had his fill after one particularly nasty one - bike comeing around a long sweeper (legally), and a bloke towing a generator pulled out without looking. Bike went into the generator at 90 km/h.

Of course, being a rural cop, he attended all the local crashes. That was just his last straw.
