PC, tree hugging, hippies! The country was built on the back of farming - Do these people not know how meat gets from the farm to the supermarket? Inhumane - No. I killed enough of them on the farm and I never had a bunch of hippies knocking down my door complaining about my treatment of these pests (not the hippies unfortunately!!)

OK - who traps possums here... with the good ol' leg trap.

It grabs them holds them, the possum sits, and waits. Hunter comes along and dispatches said possum with...???

A HAMMER - a decent thwack to the head - lights out.

Everyone on here knows my views on cruelty to animals, and I don't see a short sharp whack to the head as cruel. It's as fast as any.

And to cap it all off there was a thing on TV a week back (or so) about a guy that lives off the land around some of our southern lakes. He did exactly that.

School is no place for killing possums in this way......pretty obvious really. Yes they need to be shot, but a teacher telling kids to do it is not exactly right.
Animals deserve to be humanely treated no matter what sort of pest they are. A bullet would have been better.

I find that the most humane way to kill them is to grab them by the tail and swing them round and round rapidly until their head accidentally contacts something hard, like concrete.

(Hint: wear leather gloves when doing this)

Yes but Spotwood College is in the middle of New Plymouth. Shooting things would be no go, unless you caught it and took it somewhere... and I expect the college doesn't have a possum trap handy for such occasions.

I agree 200% with the humane treatment thing.
