Another thing is with modern medicine & technology, premature babies are being kept alive at 23-26 weeks gestation and doctors think this is a good thing. It's almost like they can have bragging rights for keeping younger & younger babies alive. Sure it's hard for any parent to lose a baby but sometimes these babies are born prem for a reason and doctors keep them alive for their own selfish reasons and these kids and their parents are left with the consequences.Originally Posted by WINJA
I bet the 11 year old girl's doctors are enjoying the attention and will profit from it. Their peers will be congratulating them and wishing they too had one of the youngest girls to be pregnant on their patient list. It's all about egos!
Thats just bloody wrong. Sadly, that seems to be, as others have said, just another sign of the times

You mention the kid’s lack of values - Where do you think he gets them from. This is the reason for my sig (taken from maddox.xmission.com) - The screw up happened right from the birth of the kids, just take a look at super nanny. Its people like these who make me want to become a hermit. It simply amazes me how grown people can let a little 2 yr old run there lives? They are the true scum of society - The role of being a parent is one of the most important roles anyone could possibly have and should never be taken lightly. I would go as far as to say if every parent didn’t mess up there kid’s crime would be drastically reduced.
No ones perfect, but that’s no excuse for negligence in the highest degree.

Boy, 15, charged over pregnant 11-year-old
LYNDSAY MOSS
HEALTH CORRESPONDENT
A TEENAGE boy has been charged with statutory rape after it emerged a West Lothian girl became pregnant aged 11.
The girl, now aged 12, is set to become the UK's youngest mother when she gives birth in a month's time - four months before her 13th birthday.
Yesterday Lothian and Borders Police said a 15-year-old boy was scheduled to appear on 10 July at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, having already made a previous appearance.
News of the girl's pregnancy sparked concern about the state of sex education in Scotland and the pressure young people face in a highly sexualised society.
The 12-year-old, who has not been named, told a national newspaper she was "really excited" about having a child after losing her virginity at 11 to a boy during a drunken night out in Edinburgh.
When she gives birth in a few weeks she will break the record set by Jenny Teague, from Poole, Dorset, who had a baby at the age of 12 years, nine months in 1997.
The girl, who smokes 20 roll-up cigarettes a day, said she did not believe in abortion and so decided to go ahead with the pregnancy.
But she said she was confident she would be able to deal with motherhood. "I've had lots of practice looking after my brothers," she said.
The youngster has now left school and has lessons at a local community centre as part of an outreach programme.
Figures show that in Scotland there were 679 pregnancies among 13- to 15-year-olds in 2003-4.
This amounts to 7.5 conceptions per 1,000 youngsters in this age group. The rate is slightly higher in England and Wales, at eight per 1,000.
The UK as a whole has the second highest teenage birth rate in the developed world, at 32 per 1,000, second only to the United States at 52. The UK rate is double that of Germany, three times the rate of France and five times that of the Netherlands.
Earlier this year it emerged that six Scots schoolgirls fell pregnant aged 12 in 2004.
There were concerns that the latest 12-year-old's situation highlighted a lack of sex education in Scotland and a society sending out the wrong messages about sex to youngsters. The Scottish Conservative health spokeswoman, Nanette Milne, said: "I hope this incident will draw attention to failings that have allowed such a young girl to go on a night out, get drunk and get pregnant, yet seemingly be ignorant about the risks and consequences.
"Any sustainable change in behaviour and attitudes can only be family and society-driven."
Norman Wells, director of the campaign group Family and Youth Concern, said more cases like that of the West Lothian girl would occur unless the issue of underage sexual activity was addressed.
"It's not more sex education children need, but a complete change of focus. Children need to be taught that sexual intimacy belongs in the context of a lifelong, faithful monogamous marriage," he said.
A spokesman for the Catholic Church also expressed concern.
He said: "It is indicative of an increasingly promiscuous culture.
"Scotland does not seem to be as concerned as it should be about underage sexual activity and promiscuous behaviour on the part of older teenagers."
Catherine Evans from Brook, the sexual health charity for young people, stressed the need for improved sex education,
"so that all young people have got the facts to protect themselves".
A Scottish Executive spokeswoman said: "We have a programme of sex education in schools. It is something all pupils should be aware of and it stresses the importance of relationships within a family context."

'Now I want to help other young girls'
Jenny gave birth aged 12 years and nine months in 1997 to a girl called Sasha, now 9.
She too conceived the first time she had sex, during a one-night stand. She realised she was pregnant only four days before giving birth.
Jenny blamed her pregnancy on lack of sex education in schools. She had her first sex education lesson two years after giving birth.
She had not started her period when she had sex for the first time and did not realise that she could get pregnant.
Jenny has advocated teaching children about sex from the age of six. Sasha's father, who was Jenny's first partner, has not had any contact with his daughter.
Jenny has raised Sasha with the help and support of her mother, Caroline. She has said in the past that she lost contact with most of her peers after becoming a mother.
"After I had Sasha I could not go out with my friends. They went out to the pictures, bowling, shopping and all the teenage things while I was sitting at home looking after my baby," she explained.
She is now married and has another daughter. She stayed on at school and plans to go to college to study midwifery - so that she can educate young girls like herself about sex.
Education must go beyond biology
WE NOW live in a highly sexualised society - young people are getting mixed messages from TV, films, magazines and music about whether or not they should be having sex.
On one hand they're told that having sex is cool, is what they should be doing and everybody is doing it. On the other hand, they often receive sex education which does not always deal with the social and relationship side of sex.
Sometimes, the peer pressure becomes too much and young people feel they have to have sex because everyone else is doing it. In reality, this is not the case. Figures from the National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles show three-quarters of girls and two-thirds of boys do not have sex before the age of 16. This needs to be stressed more.
Young people having underage sex are more likely not to use contraceptives and put themselves at risk of sexually transmitted infections as well as pregnancy.
At the Family Planning Association (FPA) we believe teenage pregnancy is a complex social issue for which there is no quick fix. Teenage pregnancy rates are now falling, but not as much as we would like to see. Continued progress requires a combined approach from health, education and social services, parents and young people.
Parents have a key role to play as they are the main sex educators for youngsters. They should not assume children will be given all the facts at school.
Sex education in schools needs to be about more than biology and address peer pressure, relationships and sexual health.
We need to make sure all children get the right information from the right sources. Otherwise, we are going to see more young lives changed forever by teenage pregnancy.

horror of horrors - we could actually teach our young ones to say no to having sex....

There are always success stories Winj. But not as many as the losses. Shit the streets are full of losses. Try talking to the Christchurch bus drivers...........etcOriginally Posted by WINJA
What your are talking about is support. That is entirely different from being proud of your daughter being pregnant at 11............14..........or what ever.
Will they make it work? Who knows. I'm picking motherhood will be a five minute wonder. The daughter will soon get sick of dirty nappies, feeding, crying etc and expect her mum to take over while she continues on with the single life as if nothing had happened. There will be rows bitch fights etc. Oh mother hood will kick in when it suites her but by the time the baby is starting school it will all have become a bit of a bore and the cycle will start over again. And mother and daughter will both be blaming each other for the mess that they have created.
But who knows. Miracles do happen. Zeds back![]()
