Loosebruce Race Report Rnd 1 VMCC

Aight so me mate dss3 have covered we rocked down to Feilding where we hooked up with Slimjim who offered us his place for some shut eye, cheers for that, it was a big help Colin i didn't get a heck of alot of sleep though, nerves maybe, or something else, dont know?

Me and Daryl woke up and rocked round to the track at what we thought was early, not for some people "freaks", we set up camp, but knew full well if it rained we were going to get um wet, Shaun hooked us up with his thingee for shelter, what the hell you call it, anyway, daryl went out to "scrub" in his tyres, and then we went out in F2 practice/qualifying, getting to grips with the track again, been over a year since, feeling pretty good in the session, no times though, waited for F1 and went out, fell in behind Nicko, figured he'd be on the pace, once we got some clear track started to try for some good laps, got past Nicko and really put my head down, but found myself running wide, or bad lines, ro losing the rear end, ended up in 8th place, pretty poo i felt, especially when daryl was in 2nd, must get out sooner for practice and get more clear laps in.

Race start as said lineing up on the dunny gird there was a pretty light rain i figured with the track being dry, on warm slicks it wouldn't make a lot of differnce at first, unless it presisted, having never done one before all sorts of shit was going through my head, but yeah flag dropped and we all took off and bottled up in the first turn, was in 12th for turn 1, saw all these bikes in front of me and was like WTF, so i just put my head down and passed a couple on the outside before turn 3 around the outside of someone in the turn 4 outbraked someone else into the hairpin, passed the Muesem Hotels ZX6R down middle straight and went into higgins and off down the back straight caught upto Ross King on the front straight, in 6th place by the end of the 1st lap and pushing on Ross hard, i really wanted to get past as soon as, i could see Nicko just up ahead in 4th with Daryl, Rob and Anthony up ahead, thought against a funky line in turn one, as there wasn't much grip, got a nice rear slide on the exit but good drive tried it on round the outside of Ross in turn 2 but it's a long way round a good rider there, and comprimises your line into 3, which i knew he'd pass me right back again, so figureed i'd trie round the outside of turn 4 and get an inside run on him into the hairpin, slow him up and out grunt the R6 down the straight, seemed pretty fool proof to me, only i aint no fool im a muppet, got a run out of 3 lost the back end a bit but still had good pace, lined Ross up on the outside, cranked the bike right down and the front let go and i found myself sliding along the track without my bike, fuck, tried the old stand up at 70kph thing didn't really work out for me though, legs dont move that fast, started to run to the bike, pretty annoyed with myself, saw no brake lever and flaged the re joining idea.
So i sat on the tyres watching Ant take the lead and ride very smoothly considering the deterioating conditions, nice one mate, Rob trying to close in on Ant but Ant held a nice comfy gap, that odl ZX9R has some boogy mate daryl was holding 3rd but Ross was catching and hassling him a fair bit, the R1 just had enough grunt to keep Ross at bay, but the track was quite bad in the last 2 laps and after seeing Ross at the VMC test day at Taupo, knew he had some skills in the slippery conditions and he made the pass after daryl wobbled his way out of the hairpin under power on the slicks.

Got the bike back to the pits and started working on it, wasn't really that bad to be honest, needed a brake lever though, no spare doh , so Rossi Girl sadii i could have hers off her K3 600, mint, thanks for the lever (can't speel your real name), threw my wets on and watched the rain come down, i like the rain and was alot more focused and detremined for the 2nd race after the first race, only to have them call it off just 1 race before we were due out, bummer.

Some good things, even though i crashed it hasn't put me out of the series as the bike is sweet, i didn't miss out on any other races on the day due to the crash, i know i can run competitive times and look forward to the next round to get up nearer the sharper end of the stick.

Big thanks out to: Shaun Harris for the support and the shelter thingee, will be in touch for some spare parts this weeks.

To finish of Bruces minta day I should point out that one of the strops broke on the GSXR on the way home, lucky (for Bruce) it tipped inwards on the trailer onto my bike, other way and she would have been bouncing along through the desert road somewhere.

So then we get home and go to unload the bikes, Bruces has no front brake, so we promptly back it off and miss the ramp, but hey, what a bit more damage to it today.

Oh, to finish things off the muppet goes to back out my driveway and hits my flatmates car haha.

We are all class I tell ya!

It's amazing how quick you go down when its wet aye. I know. I find that I can get lock up in the dry, but you've got plenty of time to react and let it go and get back on it.

Sounds like you had a pretty crazy day... Maybe you needed a bit more sleep.

You've obviously got the potential, not to mention the cojones. Was impressed how unfazed you were by the whole crashing thing.... 10 points.
