Maybe it's a pack mentality thing - If you're new and you turn up here and post something that a couple of people may think isn't that good should you expect to get crucified for it? Should you just expect to take your licks and harden up?
Thats what I got told to do,(harden up) new I was on the right track when I got negative comments over a thread I posted, hehehe. As you all say you will get that at times, because not every one agrees with what you are saying, their are some on here who only deal in negative comments, they haven't commented on my spelling yet. beware the wrath of the newbie once he settles in.

So feel free to type away in what ever manner you chose, but allow me the freedom to judge one's post based on what I read.
philosophically i'm not sure there's any such animal as a 'genuine mistake'
--------- but, if 'intent' is the major part of your arguement then, the governing intent would surely be that of the poster?

f'rinstance .. my 'intent' in my somewhat imaginative use of the written word is a perhaps-poor attempt to overcome the limitations of words on paper [or whatever] and add texture, colour and humour........ thus [hopefully] bringing my posts nearer to speach and the body-visual signals usually available when people speak face-to-face.

i make no apology if this frequently breaches convention ..... English is a tool - a means of communication constantly evolving; it is by no means as static or 'fixed' as some of the grammar police would have us believe ......

I'm sorry, Jantar, if my posts offend you ....... but I cannot [nay, 'will not']take responsibility if You have inferred an insult which I have neither intended nor implied. :spudwhat:

No, No, mstriumph. Your post didn't offend me in the slightest. My beef was with people who insist on writing in TXT for no purpose other than that they are lazy. That is why I wrote
but I feel that deliberate misuse of language without purpose is an insult to the reader.
I do recognise that it is often neccessary to enhance the written word to give additional emphasis, and I appreciate the effort most people go to. In these circumstances the deliberate misuse of language does have purpose. It is the use of TXT in this enviroment that I feel is an insult.
