Spending on land transport - mainly new roads - will rise by almost half, from around 0.9 per cent to around 1.3 per cent of the national income, in the next three years.

Well, considering Half the adult populations of NZ and a Third of NZ children are obese it can't be a bad thing!!!

Message to parents: It IS OK TO LET YOUR KIDS WALK TO SCHOOL.

There are no more abductions of kids today than there was when I was at school. 99.9999% chance they will be SAFE! You walked to school and turned out ok! Get over it, you are teaching your kids to take the car wherever they go, they are not getting daily forced exercise and they are getting FAT.

And you'll help solve our road congestion problems!

Oh, and fat people just need reminding that the feed hole up top is bigger than the out hole down bottom.

they're not fat... they are big boned (like a dinosour perhaps)

I agree with the "tax the fast food joints". Arn't they already doing that in France or somewhere European?

I'm a skinny little shit and don't like the idea of my tax money going towards helping people diet...

Putting money into helping people eat right is a good thing - it's got to be cheaper on society than pouring money into liposuction or similar when they start tipping the scales at 200kgs.

That being said - a fat tax???

    GO FOR IT!

i have anaylised this and have de-coded its hidden message

    * The Government will spend $76 million over the next four years on a campaign for healthy eating to stem obesity.

    actually means

    * Have you seen the price of gas? My Merc is costing $112 to fill and I'm using 2 tanks a week, the only way to get good mpg is to sit at 150 and the traffic is almost stopped. How are we going to afford expensive strippers and the newest merc if we have to pay $1.70 odd of gas. We need a pay raise but we can't be too obvious, so we are going to take pitty on the patty munchers an say we want to help them, stash $76 and hey presto, pay raises for the next 4 years. Hows that sound???

    "Agreed"

    Sweet,.

Hell, if someone wants to be obese, I say let them be. I don't know why everyone is obsessed with protecting people from themselves.

Same with seat belts, I personally think once someone is 18 or over they can choose to wear seat belts. I personally would wear them at all times, and make sure that anyone that I care about would too, but why the hell should be INFORCE a law to protect people from themselves?

I agree with promoting healthy eating at school, not having fast food restaurants near schools etc but once they grew up, they can do whatever they like and take the consequences.

People just don't need to be rapped up in a big bubble wrap once they reach an age where they can be responsible for their own actions.
