Host a GP in NZ? It'll never happen... but I want to be wrong so badly!
Is there a poll for this? If not, let's make it a poll - I want to see the ratio between the pessimists and the optimists.
    Keep it rubber-side down...

Post Sign the Petition to Support the MotoGP coming to NZ

    Hey guys and girls,
I've set up an online petition to get some formal support going for MotoGp coming to NZ.
If your interested, please visit the link below and sign up.
    http://www.motogp.co.nz/supportnz/

If you can think of any more blurb to put on it, let me know.
I'll add functionality to be able to view the people and comments already signed up in a few days.

    Cheers for your support!

As for taupo... I would have to have a good go at the full circuit... But it feels very much a layout for 600's (the equivalent of top GP250's...) But there are some current MotoGP circuits where the 250 times are very similar to the 990 times...
When internationals came here in the seventies they freaked at our "Goat Tracks" and as far as I can see nothing has changed. I don't know if you have ever seen the current works 250GP bikes but they are rocketships and nothing like a 600 road bike ! G.

Nothing like a road bike... But similar to a 600 Supersport (probably a World supersport spec bike, but close enough to a NZ Supersport spec bike) The just handle alot better... Have a similar amount of power 100hp... less weight... and would probably do 59's at least around pukekohe....

Just need to look at when Midge Smart came over on a late model RS125...

That's bollocks. The "off-season" spent downunder in the '60s and '70s was an important part of maintaining a racing edge for both bikes and cars. They didn't freak at all. Some of our "goat-tracks" were a hell of a lot better and safer than the courses being raced in Europe and the US in the '60s and 70s, purely because of the amount of space next to the track - i.e. some rather than none.

The ONLY things that score heavily against racing in NZ are the lack of trackside accommodation and facilities for racing teams, media, and assorted organisers and hangers on, the tyranny of distance, and the local apathy to motorsport in general (not true, but you'd think so given the lack of media support). However we'd still get many times the race goers of Bahrain and China, but without heavy Government support we can't raise the money to pay for the rights to host, let alone generate sponsor interest.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

I think everybody has missed the big major ingredient. Tobacco sponsorship. All the new venues (China, Turkey, Qatar...) allow it. That is where the money comes from. The fag companies able to stick their logo everywhere.
NZ doesn't allow tobacco sponsorship therefore not even thinking about anything else it won't happen here because of that.
"...New Zealanders, for all their faults, have virtues that are precious: an unwillingness to be intimidated by the new, the formidable, or class systems; trust in situations where there would otherwise be none; compassion for the underdog; a sense of responsibility for people in difficulty; not undertaking to do something without seeing it through - "

What about those WRC Subarus that race here with 555 written on their sides?

I think you'll find they don't race with 555 on their sides during Rally NZ.

With the goat tracks I was including our famous Street races eg Wanganui. Marco Luccanelli ( how ever you spell it ) wasn't impressed, but i must admit Mike Hailwood thought they were ok. The joys of being an old bastard with connections, I got to get on the piss with them !! G.

Personally i reckon a 250GP bike would piss on a proddy 600, hell they even lap close to if not quicker than the superbikes at most cricuts let alone the supersport bikes.
GSXR wiping the shit that is that Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki off the road since '85'
