Update on Frosty

Just curious about how it happened, was this the chain on the exit from the pits to the track? And was he coming in or going out?

Frosty was coming into the pits late in the afternoon having peeled off from the other three riders still on the track. A well meaning (but misguided individual) had placed the chain across the exit lane possibly not realising that there were still four riders out there. Light was fading fast and Frosty would have had no chance at all of seeing the chain.
Chaining off the circuit was a new proceedure for this track instituted for security reasons. The large gate was put in at the old cicuit because we had continuing problems with local morons breaking in and hooning around at night causing considerable (and expensive) damage to the track surface and surrounds and creating liability issues for the club.
The issue is not whether or not there should have been a chain there, but who should have put it up and when.

MY theory on this issue....... the cost of a gate that size is around $150...

Totally agree, though it still would have been closed when it shouldn't have been (although it would have been somewhat easier to see). Major systems failure.

Thanks for the messages of concern folks.
This is Pillion typing for FROSTY
I was discharged from Rotorua hospital at 4.00pm today.
I talked my way out of an operation (now that would have been interesting to seee/hear)
Not feeling 100 percent (or actually even 50percent).
It seems I've done damage to my food pipe and my voice box so I'm really tired and very hungry.At this stage theres about a 50/50 chance its permanant.(sexy very quiet sean connery voice)
As to what happened. Its been pretty well explained elsewhere. I was following the two gals around as a mobile marshal in case anything happened to them. I decided after 10 minutes or so it was time to call it quits. I came off the track to wave the flag but there was a chain slung across the pit entry road at neck height. I hit it with my neck and flew backwards off the bike. I took the impact on my neck,broke the chain in two and tore it off at both ends. I flew backwards and smacked my head on the track. The bike carried on and smashed down on its left side.
I won't let this tarnish an otherwise fantastic day so please lets not talk about the blame thing.
I am literally just thanking God I peeled in early because the concequences had it been one of the gals or Andrew wouldn't bear thinking about.

That was a real nasty way to end the day! Frosty - I didn't even know you were out on the track with us until we came in and you were standing there clutching your throat and yelling what had happened. Really hope nothing's permanent mate. Although there were a few people that were kind of grateful that you'd been shut up for a while!

Hey mate, glad to hear you are out of hospital, all the best for a speedy and full recovery. I had a great day there as I'm sure everyone else did. Its such a shame that an incident such as this marrs the end of it, but it sounds like you are fairly philosophical about it all.

Actually I have a comment to make about the marshals. .../... but I noted the marshal in the tower close to Pit lane was holding the yellow flag out when a bike dropped a load of oil at the S's. That's good but that same person had his/her head down on their arms leaning on the wall of the tower looking down at their feet and was unable to see the track or what was happening. So why do I mention this...well if Tony is going to pay for marshals they have to be more aware of what is going on at all times. If that was the attitude of this marshal when we had a hazard on the track could they be so relaxed and keen to go home that they never thought about what they were doing should they have been the ones to put the chain up? If yes and they were paid to be at the track I think questions need to be answered. Anyway that is up to Tony and I do not want to start a witch hunt but I was a bit disappointed to see that from paid marshals.

I want to apologise for my comments. Things are not as they appeared and as I had been told.
I thank everyone that worked at the track on the day. If Tony had not got hurt I would not have posted my comments. I should know better at my age.
