    1997 ZX-6R For Sale

Time to change up, so my ZX-6R is up for sale.

It's a 1997 F3 UK spec bike in Candy Red which I bought over when I emigrated last year.
Mileage is approx 32,500 miles (roughly 54k).
3 owners and full service history - most of it in the UK (I have receipts).
WOF and Rego till mid October 06.
New chain and sprockets 6 months ago.
Dunlop Sportmax D207's in good condition with plenty of wear left.
    Front braided hoses.
The bike is Datatagged, not sure if that's applicable in NZ!
Used daily, very reliable and more than quick enough

Condition is tidy for age (seen a lot worse newer bikes on the forcourts) however the front fairing and right side fairing where damaged by the original owner who had a low speed drop (in the Donington Park pit lane ) They are not split just had the round edges and graphics taken off. I use the bike daily and can't afford to have it off the road for weeks, but Reflections in Auckland quoted me $600+gst to repair and paint. No main damage done to the rest of the bike - indicater, footpeg and can were all replaced - don't know why he didn't get the bodywork done.

Would make a great step up bike for those who have just passed their full test and don't want to spend $15k on a new one.

Let me know if I've missed anything off or you need more info.

Ah yes the price: $6000.00 ono

AFC in Palmy have a 95 model with 64k on the clock for $6990.

Thought you had to keep it for 2 years after importing? or is the import duty/gst already paid?

You will be up for Customs Import charges if you sell the ZX.

Penalties are a fine of up to $10,000 or up to 6 months in prison. Customs can't give you any waiver on it and you will have signed documents promising to tell Customs if you sell the bike within two years of importing it.

Paid GST/Customs duty etc when the bike came off the boat as I'd owned it for less than a year in the UK. Does this mean it's ok to sell? I believed that as long as the GST was paid then I was free to sell the bike whenever. Can someone confirm this?

I'm also here on a permanent residency visa.

Best thing to do is contact NZ Customs and ask what the story is before you sell it. You may find you aren't allowed to sell it for 24 months irrespective of duty/GST paid, and as the documentation states, Customs have no discretion so the penalties would still apply.

I'm not taking any schadenfreude from this, I'm just trying to make sure you don't get penalised.

If you've paid the GST it should be fine - good luck with the sale btw, looks like a good buy!

That isn't the case at all. When you import a motor vehicle for private use you aren't allowed to sell it for two years, and you sign documents to that effect to get the Customs clearance. This case is also clouded by the fact that he owned it for less than 12 months in the UK.

Please read the documentation and don't listen to the bush lawyers.

I do a lot of work for Customs, so I will get the "final" word today.

Apologies for contradicting someone with so many posts! - I would certainly check with customs too, my understanding is that the 2yrs bit only applies if it was classed as a "concessionary import" (which if GST/import transaction fees were fully paid it wasn't) - at least that's what they told me when I sold my car

Called Customs this morning and they confirmed that GST has been paid on the bike and I am free to sell it! The two year clause only applies to concessionary imports which are GST free. As i'd owned the bike for less than 12 months in the UK before shipping I had to pay GST and import duty on arrival in NZ. If I'd owned it for over 12 months in the UK then you qualify for free concessionary importing and would have had to a) pay GST on arrival or b) wait 2 years before selling it.

It's what I thought, but was well worth double checking - cheers Jim for raising the point anyway Hope that this helps others.

Sweet - Just got an email from the Customs Lawyer saying that, and I'd warned them that you'd be calling.

Just so you foreign imports know, the VIN goes into a database and it is flagged to Customs by LTNZ if you sell a vehicle before the 24 month period is up. They will give you a fright (knock on the door to ask you if you know it has been sold), even if you have done it the way NZ-ZX says if you don't call to ask if it is OK to sell.

Good bikes these, they'll go forever. I'd sell mine if I could find a worthy replacement for a decent price but havent seen anything that'd make it worth it
