I've watched it a few times and slowed it down... I think he still has a hand at the end, it looks like an explosion in the intake and the ram air pipe falling off?

I've seen this before.... I thought the thing flying off was the piston, I believe the engine threw a piston and continued upwards through the fairing, etc...

one hell of an explosion to put a piston through the head - past the carbs, threw the tank then up into the air.

more reasonable theroy would be an explosion in the air box.

wasn't a piston, the guy still has his hand, he wears a bullet proof vest now. I think there is a thread on this somewhere already? there is another video from a different angle too, don't have the link tho sorry.

It's a repost. The thing that comes off is his hand, he just got some very bad bruising out of it. Had the clip gone on a bit longer you would have seen his hand is still attached to his body.
